Greetings And Salutations My "Coffee & Coal Commandos"..!! Whoo-Whee What A Week It Twas'..!!
Just returned yesterday after a rousing week helping clean up Southwest Michigan..I honestly never thought that engaging in the aftermath of Supercell Thunderstorms and Tornados would be "Mere Child's Play" when compared to the literal Living Hell that the ongoing Ice Storm has brought to the Hard Scrabble "Youper's" of the UP..!! Total Devastation and Long Term Restoration.. This Monster iced all the way to the East Coast..
On da' heels of that,I want to Thank Our Vaunted Galley Crew for "Keeping All Of Our Oars In The Water" while I reengaged in my role as "Electrical Boy" after a 5 year vacation..!!
In Honor of Everyone,Everywhere who has been in the Mighty Blast Path of this Killer Spring Weather Attack,We're gonna' Celebrate still having a Home, and Loved One's Alive in it..!!
I won't be labor the menu today,as most of You "Calorie Hero's" know what We Provide and what it takes to do it right..!!
Get Your Fannies out of the rack and get in here..!! You own it,so you eat it..!!
Do believe sure to Thank Freddy for constantly teaching Us to "Hug Your Loved Ones,And Forward We Go..!!"

Mornin'
HB....an "atta-boy" to you for joining the storm clean-up crew in Michigan.........
Here in Southern NH, we had our first daffodil bloom with the 65* temp Friday. Not much going on with a cold, wet week-end of mid 40* temps. I think a 'Woolrich Blend' coffee and muffin will be a good choice, for starters......take care, guys/gals.
Cheers

Good morning everyone hope all is well and again thanks for getting it all started HB!
I love the UP wish we could have stayed longer but just gives us an excuse to go back 😁, thats great you were able to help out.
Wife had her last inpatient chemo treatment this week so hopefully in 28 days she will start on her pill for a unknown amount of time.
Now we can get back to living a somewhat normal life after this long 6 months and praying this *censored* will stay away but with anything tomorrow is not guaranteed for anyone so live everyday to its fullest.
Take care, stay safe!

Thanks HB and good of you to help keep the fire in a wire going so the lights come back on!

Its a good time to get done with chemo Keep, right at springtime! Enjoy the summer for sure!

Windier than usual here and kinda cold. Guess I'll work on some tax stuff for a while today as the 15th is near. Maybe go to the dollar store for some provisions. My back is sore from pretending it was a forklift yesterday so I'll take it easy. College basketball finals tomorrow and Monday kinda rounds out the weekend. As always pile the plate full and wrap it all in bacon. Have a good one!

Good on you for helping out HB. Mother Nature's destruction and the reality of mortality will teach you what really matters.
Just April showers here with the occasional rumbling of thunder and blowing of wind. Spring is quietly waking things up so far. Be Grateful Guys!

Morning All!

HB out of retirement? I guess that's a good thing if you can do it once in a while.
Not much weather drama down here. Had some wind and rain the other night. It's been warm enough that today is day 4 of having the heat turned OFF this week. The GJ still has half a barrel of coal left after 6 days.

 DAMMMMITTTTTTTTTT!!!! I didd it AGAIN!! Lost a whole hours worth of a G/D POST!!!!!! FFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!

It's funny how it happens - as soon as I start ranting about leftists on Beacon Hill, my post VANISHES. Sure makes one wonder ...

ANYWAAAAAY as I already had typed out ….

I’m sure the folks in the UP appreciate your efforts, HB!! YEAH! GET IT!! 🤘😬🤘

I hadn’t a clue how severe this storm was!! Heard nothing on social media. I steer clear of corporate media these days since they’re just lapdogs for the former regime.

Keepa, my brother, your wife is in our prayers. Damn that “C” word!! That crap has ravished this area and the people around me!! MA seems to breed it. It’s awful

Just another week of trying to survive the ups and downs of the weather, and misery in this, the Gulag of MA. Trying to survive intact! Typical gloom and doom perpetually gray skies and G/D cold!! Then one day of clear skies and 60°, only for it to laugh in your face and dump 4” of ice cold rain on your damned head for a week straight!!! Grrrr! I HATE this place!!! PERPETUAL MISERY!! Was such a temperature shock, you could SEE the oil level in my oil tank from the 99.99% humidity level here.

My dad wiped out at his favorite watering (coffee) hole the Friday before last. Got taken to the hospital via meat wagon for immediate surgery. He snapped the ball socket off his pelvis for the femur. All it took was a handful of screws and it’s back together again. I guess that’s all it takes. I’d have figured a beefier fix than that, but he was able to shuffle with a walker less than 48 hours after the fall. He’s in a bit of pain, but he’s in good spirits, which is always a good thing. He’s been keeping the nurses entertained and informed! He just told one of them what they used to call pillowcases in the Navy. FART SACKS, hahahahaha! She loved that one! 🤣 He’s since been moved to rehab where he’ll be for the next week, at a minimum.

Been trying to get the Beetle up and running after work and on the weekends. Making some progress. It’s slow - just not enough hours in the day as per usual. I did find out that the Mallory Hy-Fire magic box is for sure JUNK! Imagine that! Another automotive electronic device that took a dump! So I’ve installed a point distributor, but, against my better judgement I decided to replace the points with a Pertronix pickup inside the distributor. Much simpler with less weight and less components compared to the Mallory. Simpler = MORE RELIABLE, always! I drilled an extra hole in the distributor so that in the event of the Pertronix unit taking a dump on us, I can somewhat easily install a set of points to get it home. We’ll see how that all shakes out. Almost there!! (Yeah … that’s what I said 2 months ago!!)

Then after that I need to install 2 inner tie-rods, and a set of tires, then get an alignment. Easy enough … but there’s ALWAYS a wrench thrown in my projects! It’s the goofy ass “5 wide” rims on this thing. I need an adapter to be able to mount them to my balancer! I found one in my stash … and the lug pattern fits!!! BUT …… ALWAYS A BUT …. that G/d thing will NOT sit true to the shaft! Can’t figure out why. What a PITA!! ALWAYS something!! I found a place that makes adapters for $150 - just what I need - ANOTHER friggin bill! But I’m a bit confused as to how the hell the damned thing works with no threaded studs for the lug holes - they’re just pins. Fired off an email to the manufacturer. We’ll see what they say when they open tomorrow. Hopefully it’s good news!

Strange phenomenon happened the other night!! I took a pic of the Century’s odometer at 111,111 miles while at a light in the sh!tty, but didn’t notice the other details until I got home! That pic of that mileage was taken at 3/11 @ 11:11PM!!! WTH!! STRAAAAANGE!! Didn’t pick up on that detail until I got home! Guess I should’ve bought a lottery ticket … but as my luck would have it, everything was CLOSED!! 😂

Oh! My neighbor got one of them thar Jap Kei trucks!! Thing is an absolute RIOT!! Super tiny!! Right-hand drive, and STICK! 4-speed! But I’ll tell ya, the thing is LOADED with features! Everything you could ever want in a truck! Makes me wonder why domestics have never put a POWERED HYDRAULIC liftgate on ANY of their trucks!! Not only that, but it’s also a 4x4, AND has A/C! He says it doesn’t even bog the engine down much - I was shocked, lol! Neat!! The trick is getting it on the road in this gulag. Insurance companies don’t want anything to do with it, probably because this ass-backwards state run by morons had them ILLEGAL up until a few months ago. That tells me some rich leftist buddy or donor of the scumbags on Beacon Hill must’ve bought one and told them how wonderful it is … because God knows they NEVER listen to US! In fact, they do the OPPOSITE …. But besides that, he’s trying. I wish him luck!!

It has "N" rated tires!! I've never heard of a speed rating that low! They'll come unglued (possibly) after 86 MPH!!

Anyway, I’ve gotta get my ass in gear since I’ve now spent an hour and half typing here on a post that friggin VAPORIZED into nothing! That Beetle ain’t gonna get itself running.

Have a great week, fellas!

I love that truck! And your right about the lift gate. They should be on all trucks.

Remember that crap our nations automakers were selling into the 70's until Honda's and other foreign cars started selling their autos here and USA makers had to start giving a crap to compete? (or maybe it would have happened anyway) Anyway the competition kinda forced our automakers to make better autos.

Ford used to sell brand new Ford trucks with sleeves in a cylinder, cracks that had been welded, etc. My Dad had a 1973 truck with a 360 that had a single cylinder bored out for cripes sake. No wonder it had a shake. Cranks that were already turned too. He used to show me that stuff as he was rebuilding a lot of 70's Fords for a while and I was doing the pulling and installing. I sure pulled a lot of FE blocks and still have a good running 390 in a 73 pickup. Oh, I didnt even mention the cab corners rusting out in a year on the 73-79 models.

Back to your misery, LOL, its hell to live it but its fun to read about!

LOL, glad someone enjoys it at least! It sucks from my perspective for sure!

Oh yeah, it's abysmal today. They were pulling that crap almost FIFTY years ago! Today, they have combined their corporate power to make sure EVERYONE is on a level (equally shitty) playing field. The 2 best manufacturers from a reliability standpoint - Saab and Volvo - were destroyed by GM & FoMoCo respectively. GM ran Saab straight into the dirt, and FoMoCo decimated Volvo to a former shell of itself, and made everything under that badge just as shitty as what wore the FoMoCo badge! What a DISGRACE! I'm sure after that was pulled off, the 2 powerhouse manufacturers used that to flex their muscles in front of the rest of the automakers to be sure they all played ball. It's just FAR TOO coincidental that those 2 brands got taken out, then everything shot straight downhill afterward.

You have to admit - it's a brilliant plan. When literally EVERYTHING sucks, you have no other choices! What a bunch of scumbags that engineered that! It's no wonder our government bailed them out ...
