Why is the US so far behind China on energy transmission

China is going back to Edisons DC transmission systems...With modern materials...

Use DC to transmit energy long distances...Thousands of miles of UHVDC power...



In the US with 4 time zones we could move power across the US in a wave with the sun...

When any renewables are in excess they could be shunted to the needy areas...

In both directions ,Texas wind to NYC, and Nevada sun to eastern cities...

Two or three spines from east to west as collectors and all the collectors on each rib...

These are only 1-3% loss and utilize all the energy sources available...

Run these lines along the interstate highways that already have right of ways...

I'd much prefer they create the power somewhere near where it is needed. None of that crap is needed then plus its people solving their own problems and not pawning it off to others. Texas has kinda been doing that but they have had their problems. At least they try.

What China does is irrevelant to the USA. They are ran by a leader and the people have no say in any of it. Im not saying it isnt interesting what they do cuz it is, but I sure am not wanting to use them as an example for what I want here.

China is building much of their infrastructure 100 years after the US…of course it is more advanced. Same reason they don’t need to bother with copper phone lines.

I can see the benefit of high voltage DC, but wow would it be a huge job to convert.

The idea of producing where needed is good but you need a good

Backbone to store energy from places that it is available..

The microgrids are in this vein... They produce for a certain population

and sell the excess on the open market...

Developments like subdivisions where they have their own energy

systems and their residents share the resources... Whether it is

heat,electric or utilities...

Real good return for 100-2500 residences on microgrids..

Electric at ~2cents a Kwh with low distribution costs ...

Being their own power plant and distributor...

I think the inverse Solar Panel would be fantastic. So there needs to be a panel that produces energy from the darkness.

Simply reverse engineer the current panel and viola.

This example is really old tech ...Would never be built this way today...

50 year old tech ... Modern equipment would be utilized...

Maybe in the update when needed...

China Has a huge population and all sources of energy have be used

until the production of renewables catches up...If there were enough

capacity they would use it...China still installs more Renewables than

all the rest of the world combined...

Solar at night still need more work... But battery and thermal are better

so far.. but who knows what the future will bring...

Solar panels may be able to provide cold water needed for air conditioning

but not economical yet....

If you are referring to the gas plant that is actually fairly new tech being utilized in almost any new gas plant in the last two decades. It's a combined cycle plant. The gas first powers a gas turbine and then the "waste" heat is used to heat water for a steam turbine. When run for base load about 60% efficient.

This is another reason gas is overtaking coal, they can't do this with a coal plant.
