Thats been done for years with all scrap here but they never call the cops. They made a catalytic converter law a year ago and it helped so they took it another step. I misunderstood that law a long while but it does allow sale of them if you own the vehicle but its kinda complicated. I expect that law to spread into more states as I guess it helped the theft some, but I still hate laws like that. Catch the outlaw is usually my way.

For many years now, here in CNY, the metal recyclers have been making a copy of your driver's license every time you bring in any type of metal for scrap.

See the trick is to get the people to all go electric so those in control can just shut you off. Then there is no need to worry about how the police will catch you.

Maybe with some good advertising there will be people installing specialty locks on their homes that are all electronic and can actually lock the person inside their home. Then the police can simply lock you inside your home and monitor your movements via all your smart appliances, computers, TV's.....Then it probably won't be too long and there will be some type of disabling device installed in your home. Of course so that you can disable an intruder and keep you and your family safe. But then the courts will rule that police can have access to said device and use it against the owner/occupant.

Do you see how that works?

One day police cars and police will not be needed. Simply send an AI drone. Or no need for that. The surveillance inside and outside the home will recognize you committed a transgression and will simply fine you via real ID or whatever they call it. There will be a new definition of house arrest.

Then Big Barney will be saying that this is the future. Any city that still has police ......

Heck we probably need to mandate an implant into every living creature that can monitor its activity and thinking.

Imagine how many crimes we can stop by monitoring deviant thoughts!

Exactly as done here but it does no good when the scrapyard doesnt care enough to report things very often. Maybe just enough to make it look like they are trying. Not their problem, Ive heard scrap workers say that with my own ears. So I get stuck with new laws instead. Im sure other states will follow if they havent already.

Meanwhile California allows you to steal up to $1,000 of brand new stuff right from the store and probably won't arrest you for it.
