Am I just unlucky? The first two times it was County and I got picked both times for the jury. The first was a civil case with car accident and the second one I alternate for a aggravated assault case If you are from the area and remember that guy that almost got his head cut off with a machete at the projects in WB it was that case.

Now I'm moving to the big time with Federal jury duty. I have to call this Friday and they will tell me if I have to show up on Monday and I have to do that for the next 4 Fridays... <sigh>

I don't necessarily mind it but this is actually the fourth time, the other time I didn't mention I called in and they said I was excused. What has me miffed is that it basically ties up an entire month I can't make any plans. I have to call in this Friday and the next three Fridays after that. Presumably they will tell me to show up on the following Monday if they need me.

I just hope they have some decent chairs, for the County court it's hard metal folding chairs. Couldn't imagine spending a few days sitting on them. I was lucky both times because I got picked within hours, glad I wasn't sitting there all week wataching the clock.

Haven't read a book in quite some time and used to be a bookworm. I have a book here the guy that runs fusor.net wrote he sent me about Philo Farnsworth the inventor of TV and the Fusor.

If you get picked mention you need a good chair and be kinda anal about it if you have too. Theres no reason to have to be in pain. Fed cases can be long. I dont think I could even do it anymore myself for the same reasons without standing up once in a while.

Ive only been picked for county duty but it was understandable if you had a planned vacation and let them know well ahead of time. But not ok if it was after you are picked.

Farnsworth was an interesting person. Ive read short blurbs every year around the anniversary of TV about him. Books, I dont read much anymore either.

I did Federal at Wilkes Barre years ago. It was nice. The Feds have more money than the county.

I have had a whole lot of jury duty summons in my life. Almost all of them resulted in pass by the end of the day. I was picked for the jury on one high dollar lawsuit on workplace asbestos. That was just settled on the side a minute before starting. It would have been a minimum of two months in a non airconditioned reserve courtroom over the Summer. The judge told us that we were the luckiest jurors he had ever seen. One other time, I was in the final pool for selection by the attorneys in a criminal trial. Very weird statutory rape case. One side or the other didn't like me, so I was out. Real glad on that stinker. They now leave me alone for some years for med issues and old age.

A female coworker, back in the 80's, was selected for a federal jury on a huge federal case in Philadelphia. The judge sequestered the entire jury for two months of the trial. Likely partly for their safety. She thought she was going to be home in a couple of days. Later on, she said that there were all sorts of new romances created from the long hotel stay. Marriages likely ended as well.

On most all of my jury duty calls I was a state employee. The county jury pay was $13 a day. If you wanted to receive your regular pay for the day, you were required to sign over the $13 check when you got it. To the state.

Well I have managed to avoid the medieval chair torture chamber for last week and this week. 3 Fridays down and one to go.

Good news, I'm not required to report. Not sure if it helped but they asked you to look on Friday after 5. I waited until early Saturday to look. Don't know if you are pre-selected but it's possible they are picking the first people to respond.

When I did federal jury duty it went by juror number. The higher your number the less likely you are to be needed. If you have a low number you're guaranteed to be told to report.

If you want to be permanently removed from the juror list you should research jury nullification of the law, an disclose to the court that you are aware of its existence.

Interestingly enough jury nullification is essentially what defanged the prohibition of alcohol.
