We’d like to share what has been going on with our family in hopes that this may help someone else. In March, Jason began having some GI symptoms, in which he proceeded to go to a doctor to get checked out. That doctor checked him out and told him that he would be okay, just needed some probiotics and OTC treatments. After my prompting, he pushed to see a specialist and they didn’t have availability until the summer time. He wasn’t happy with waiting that long so he sought another recommendation to another doctor to get in sooner. That doctor proceeded to see him in July and scheduled diagnostic testing for mid-August. Jason went to the testing, in which the doctor found a tumor, the doctor suspected that the tumor was cancer. After the testing, he began to vomit and have pain, so I took him to the ER and we were not prepared for what they were about to tell us. Jason has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer with metastases to his liver and his lungs.
Jason will be starting chemotherapy 9/18. It will be day 1 so we go in for labs first thing then he will get a few different medications thru his port. We will get the chemo pills in the mail and he will take them twice a day for 14 days then a week off and then do it all over again. Right now they’re saying we’ll do this for 6 months and then see where we are.
My wife wrote this up. It was just easier to copy and paste it then retype it all out. We are hopeful that this first line of treatment works. God and time will tell us. We are staying positive and hopeful for the best.

I went through this two years ago. They took the sigmoid out. The chemo is tough, I got it intervenenous and a pump for two days, 12 rounds. It plays hell on the rest of the body so watch for odd symptoms and report them to the Dr.

I always do report any odd symptoms. Knock on wood this first round has not been bad! Tumor might get removed down the road, but we had to get treatment started right away. Possibility that it might never depends on treatment.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Wed. Sep. 27, 2023 7:35 am I went through this two years ago. They took the sigmoid out. Good thing you were persistent. I called in for a checkup for what i believed was skin cancer. They gave me an appointment 6 months out. I told them in 6 months they might be sending me flowers if my fear is realized. Dont let them put you on the back burner and good luck with your treatment.

Can I assume he did not have any colonoscopy done prior to having issues ? It's really the best way to check for colorectal cancer.
He's in a tough spot. Best sincere wishes to a positive outcome.

No I have not. I am only 36 years old. They don’t suggest getting one till 45 and not sure if insurance would cover before that unless it runs in the family. I really have no family history.davidmcbeth3 wrote: ↑Wed. Sep. 27, 2023 5:27 pm Can I assume he did not have any colonoscopy done prior to having issues ? I had one at 42, but they wanted to make sure the Hidradenitis Suppurativa didn't get up there.
