Oh God, don't even say that, lol. I am trying to do painting and some repair work while my water softner quit working and I have a waterline to fix.

Well, somewhere here there is a thread that is fairly long and detailed about a Clayton setup. Lee did a bunch of mods but it was for burning anthracite. Hopefully he will show up and post a link for you as I have not learned how to do that.

Here are some pics of the inside of the Clayton. I got it all cleaned out but it needs new fire brick. Also it looks like the walls of the fire box are warped. I checked for cracks but didn't find any. I wonder if warping like this could be a safety hazard.

Warping is likely from someone filling it past the firebricks and/or over firing it. Me, I wouldnt worry about it if no cracks or rot. Opinions may vary on that.

I'm not sure how old it is, I think it's a 1600 series from the research I have done. I do know the previous owner used it for 20+ years. He burnt coal and wood in it.

I'd still make a small smokey fire after checking to make sure pipes are clean and in decent shape. And check the chimney.

I actually just got done sweeping the chimney, I heard stuff falling down as I was pushing the brush through. There was a build up of creosote in the pipe from the previous owner. I put the brush up and down thru the entire length of the chimney a few times. It's to dusty in the chimney now to see how clean it came. However this was my first time cleaning a chimney so I don't know what's acceptable and what's not.

If the brush moves through, it's clean. Lol. Bit can make it dirty fast.

You can mount a thermal snap switch on top of the furnace to turn the blowers on and off.. They will turn on and off according to how much heat the furnace is producing. What you don't want is a hot fire without the blowers removing heat from the furnace.Dustycloud wrote: ↑Sat. Sep. 09, 2023 12:51 pm Yea I have but it was a stove not a furnace. I tore my acl in my right knee a few years ago and steps really aggrevates it. If I could just find a way to wire it so so the thermostat would kick the blowers on and off I'd be a happy camper
