My neighbor sold his wood boiler and has taken delivery of a brand new AA260. He already had an outbuilding for the wood boiler, so he put an insulated addition on it for the Axeman. There are three loops of 1” PEX feeding a house and two other buildings. The sketch was the first idea I had for layout, but he has decided not to build a sloped floor bin. Instead the back of the bin will be open, so easy to access if needed. When low on coal he can put a barrel over the end of the auger.
I am headed over today to take measurements and work up a parts list for the boiler piping.

What was his argument against a sloped floor to aid in the feeding ?

You need to be careful with the end of the auger, you need to use the doghouse. Not using it puts coal on top of the auger and strains the motor.

Pete Axeman said don't bother, and our local coal dealer recommended against it also. Said it isn't worth the time and materials to build the floor. It is easy enough to add at a later date if he decides to go that route.davidmcbeth3 wrote: ↑Sun. Aug. 27, 2023 9:47 am What was his argument against a sloped floor to aid in the feeding ?
The doghouse is installed, by the book.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Sun. Aug. 27, 2023 10:24 am You need to be careful with the end of the auger, you need to use the doghouse. Not using it puts coal on top of the auger and strains the motor.

Wow, NICE!
Is the load going to be enough to get the 260 to work hard? If so, might need a bigger coal bin.
You might want to move this topic over to the boiler section.

I am back from taking notes, time to get a parts list together.
It came with a Hydrolevel digital aquastat - I have not had good luck with those on EFM's, but I am told it is the relays in them that fail. I will use an RIB relay to isolate the AA motor load from the Hydrolevel.
The room the boiler is located in is built pretty tight. Mechanical code calls for two vents of roughly 130 sq. inches each, one high, one low, on opposite sides of boiler. The owner already had two 12x12" louvered vents so we will use those.

Thanks Don, I guess I just clicked on the wrong section when I created the thread.
The heat load came in just over what a 130 can handle. The 260 won't work hard. The bin is fairly large - roughly 10'x12' based on what I saw today. There is also space for additional coal storge near the bin. He has a bucket tractor to top off the bin mid season if needed.

Not much! This is in an outbuilding with not much pitch on the roof. They are going to run just enough double wall 6" to go through ceiling and over peak of roof. I think one 4' section would do it. It will be offset from boiler a little bit so the cleanout is not over the boiler. 6" single wall from boiler to chimney cleanout.

Correction, "chair with wheels"
haha, I didn't know you could still buy a brand new 260 , I wonder if they made it to order or had it 'in stock', I wonder how many 260's they've sold in the past 20 years? I'm surprised your neighbor is going that route, being so far from coal country good for him! Maybe you guys can share shipping prices and get a whole 20 tons...
Rob, have you ever seen and Axeman run or just the AHS's?
