Check with Lee.
If I remember he experimented with how much air to feed through the over-fire air tubes for the size of the firebed. And to control the tubes he made end caps with a series of holes drilled that I kidded him about his "salt and pepper" air feed system.

Just to give you an update, Wilson came through for me. I received the gas ring/s today and they look to be excellent castings.
I had no luck with the firebrick. Wilson doesn't have any on hand and he is having trouble finding one of the molds. I'll work on that later.
Wilson is a very pleasant man to speak with and he took the time to explain everything in detail. Very positive experience.

There's always the option of using ramset refractory, a kitchen rolling pin, and a knife.
Or using the same Rutland castable refractory that I made the brick molds for,... you can do as some have done and cast a liner in place. There are several posts in this section of the forum on how it was done.

Ramset refactory will cost at least $60 and up for a 50lbs. box. Plus $50 shipping and handling.

What about a “super refractory” for bricks?
Anyone ever tried it? They use it in products like “Heatshield”. It’s good to like 2000F-3000F depending on which “brand” super refractory being looked at. They use it to fill cracks in clay chimney linings and they say it (a tiny thin layer 1/8”) makes them zero clearance. They actually coat the entire lining of a clay lined chimney with it.

I used Noxram on my Oak 30 around ten years ago and it's still holding up well. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again. I didn't know if the gas ring required the cast brick as a resting place. As you know, the Oak 30 lacks that ring.Sunny Boy wrote: ↑Fri. Nov. 10, 2023 3:50 pm There's always the option of using ramset refractory, a kitchen rolling pin, and a knife.

Would anyone know the size of the firebox in these #6 stoves? thanks

The GW#6 firepot is a curving taper from 15-1/2 inch inside diameter at the top, to about 12 inch inside dia. at the bottom. That's the iron pot without any liner.
With the original 3/4 inch thick firebrick liner it holds 50 lbs. of nut coal, or about 45 lbs. of stove sized coal.

The gas ring sits on the top edge of the pot and not on the original firebricks.
