Here in CNY hill country, I woke up to 38F outside. First week of June and with the cool weather the past few days the house has cooled down a bit too much.

Opportunity to take care of three jobs.
1. I fired up the range with black walnut saplings that I had to get rid of. They grow like weeds here.
2. Been waiting for cooler weather to put a good coat of green wood creosote in the range for summer rust prevention.
3. Heated the kitchen up very quickly with cheap heat and added a nice hint of wood smoke.

Bonis is heating the kettle for coffee and cooking breakfast, all curtesy of Mother Nature. :D

Anyone else got their coal stove back on duty ?

Paul

I still haven't shut my EFM down for the season. We have also had some chilly mornings, and the warm & dry basement keeps the house comfortable. I should probably have a short wood fire in the Chubby Jr to "pickle" it for the summer.

Perfect weather for $0 cost temperature control in the house. Solar gain in the day enough to warm up the house. Open or close windows and doors to regulate room temp.

Put a chicken coop light inside of it with a red 250w bulb in it. Look like a coal fire, warm like a coal fire.

Probably put off just the right amount of heat if you remove stove pipe and cover stove breech with heavy steel plate to help hold some heat in stove.
