We have a coal furnace in the basement. Every time I open it to get it stoked to put coal in it, huge amounts of coal smoke and dust come out through the door. Everytime!! I put small filters on all my vents and they are already black. I literally have coal dust all over my house. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That should not happen, I would think.

Its likely a draft issue.

Please provide Make/model # of the furnace and you may find a person with the same one. Edit your title to incl this info too for better advert of the device.

I can see how such an issue is creating anxiety for you.

Saying "insane coal dust" v. "insane coal dust with my XYZ furnace"...which title is better and gonna get someone more likely to respond who can offer most help?

what kind of furnace?

for me, with my EFM... if I open the firebox door or ash bucket door when it's running, it will push smoke or ash out the door since the fan is running and the door is an easier path than the whole flue system. so, I only open the door if the system is off.
