Is there a proper way to fasten the spark guard in the Glenwood no.8?

As long as you don't overfill the firepot, up where that grill is it isn't hot enough to melt even mild steel. I have plain steel cotter pins holding the grill in my GW #6. The only thing that I could get to fit thru the hole is a 1/8 in. stainless rivet. Do you think that would hold up under the heat?
