How do you get rid of your ash?

Figured I would throw this out there to see what everyone else is doing with their ash. I have an odd way of getting rid of mine as compared to most. I keep a manure spreader in the shed and fill it during heating season then I spread it on the fields before planting.

I am creating an “ash mountain” in the backyard. I figure eventually I will do some sort of excavation project that can use the fill.

use it for fill. spread on driveway when icey. I tell my neighbors to come get some if they need it, I have it 30 gallon garbage cans out back.

We set it out for pickup by the township every Friday. They use it on the roads when it snows.

At my father in law's, we spread it in the back alley as fill.

Way better for your concrete walkways than salt.

I throw mine on the driveway or dump it over the bank on my property, not a problem. My uncle spreads it on his driveway exclusively. He has a really nice driveway now lol.

How long have you been doing that? How's the apron chain holding up? Is it eating it up?

chain looks good I have only been doing it for 3 years. no telling how long the guy before me was using it for this either. I do use it to spread manure from my animals on occasion as well.

Pretty sure my wifey puts some in my food whereas the rest goes right into the trash can.

Its non-hazardous waste.

It probably had a thick coating on it when you started. if it will eat up stainless I wondered what it would do to mild steel.

I have been putting mine around the perimeter of the foundation hoping that it will keep the grass down enough that I won’t have to weed whack. A lot of the bulk goes into the driveway but I’m not sure that it packs real well. Once I rake the gravel, I hope it disappears. When I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to go outside, I bag it in the basement and toss it in the tote for collection.

I used to worry about a little unburned coal in my ashes but when i went to dump on the town ash pile i discovered my ashes had the LEAST amount of unburned coal on the whole pile.
