They said I would know if the additive was helping within a few miles and it will have the full effect within 25 miles. I just added the additive and topped off the fluid to the correct level, headed out for a drive now.
I took a picture of the old parts before I throw them in the scrap bin, that valve on the top was miserable to put back into place. You have to compress all the parts and springs with a screwdriver and then get a snap ring in there.

I made a quick trip to town to fill my gas cans, and I am cautiously optimistic. Things have definitely improved, and I think it is already good enough to just keep driving it. Tomorrow I have to put about 80 miles on it so that will be the true test.

What kind of MPG do you get with it. My brother had one for 20 yrs and it was pretty dependable. Not great on MPG but its huge so there that.

When this suburban was purchased gas was less than $1 per gallon. I have all of the fuel logs for each trip it made to Arizona and back.
Even with current fuel prices a clear title and cheap insurance goes a long way.

My 95 K2500 pickup is even worse.Very dependable but I estimate about 12 hwy and 8 in town. But sometimes nothing else is up to the job. Like moving a 40 ft ladder. About $200 per yer for tags an insurance keeps it on the road.

The way I look at it, fuel is MUCH cheaper than payments, interest, insurance, sales tax and other taxes / fees on some $85,000 piece of failure-prone, computer-controlled, rolling Tupperware.

You're beginning to convince me. I don't mind what electronics are in my daughters 12 Cruze, but the wife's new Crosstrek scares me with all the crazy stuff that's on it.
