I'm late to the party and did notice Larry has been missing for quite some time but I didn't know he decided not to post anymore.. I thought it was just because he wasn't burning coal anymore..

Larry, no one will be disappointed if you change your mind. As noted above you have quite a fan base here :D

I hope to hear from ya..

What's your point????

traderfjp wrote: Fri. Mar. 25, 2022 2:03 pm However, it's their right just as it is your right to censor the members here. You can't have it both ways. It might not be fair but these companies can make the rules as you have here. The only difference is that you have thousands of members and they have millions. If you had that reach then your site would be in the media. If I don't like how you censor I can leave the site. Why doesn't that apply to all social media.

My point is that this is a mostly conservative site and while it doesn't have the reach of Facebook or Twitter it censors free speech just as much as all the other sites mentioned. Conservatives whine about how horrible social media is to their speech but their are user policies in place on these social media sites. Richard like Zuckerburg make the rules like them or not. Do you think this is fair? Should all platforms be a free for all. If you are against censorship on these other sites than you have to be against it here. Just curious because I'm really tired of politicians whining about this.

I get where you are going now.

If you had seen some of the crap being posted by one racist fascist person (who hasnt posted in a long time) it might make more sense to you why this happened, at least the completely free speech part of it. Things are still being talked about now but there isnt the eye poking there used to be, or I guess the swearing either. I do miss the darker humor myself.

Stay away from the crudities and personal insults, and you can post almost anything or belief you want. Those adept in Bobonics have complete freedom.

Any service that allows user generated content falls under section 230, it exempts the service owner including this site for liability for the content posted and actions taken to moderate that content. You can't sue me if Fred calls you an idiot and Fred can't sue me if I remove it.

This is a very important law, I would not be able to operate this site without it. Anybody suggesting we remove this law clearly has no understanding of the ramifications. It is probably the single biggest thing that insures freedom of speech in the modem era.

The argument is that these major services like Facebook and Twitter are abusing this exemption and have crossed the line from moderation to editorial control/publisher and should be treated just like any other publisher being liable for the content.

Cruz a few years back had a really good bill. A site/service with many millions of members would be required to certify they were not censoring political speech to maintain their exemption. The millions of smaller sites like this which hosts a forum, bloggers etc. would not have to deal with the reams of red tape.

There is other things in play here as well. The backbone infrastructure for the internet is increasingly being consolidated into the hands of a few companies which also fall under 230.
I woke up this morning in a bad mood and decided to kick them off the Internet. I called our legal team and told them what we were going to do. I called our Trust & Safety team and had them stop the service. It was a decision I could make because I’m the CEO of a major Internet infrastructure company.

Having made that decision we now need to talk about why it is so dangerous.

Good Lord,FB!! While I'll Admit That The Boys At My Former,Pre-Retirement Place Of Work Had Coined The Term "Bob-Bonics,It Doesn't Begin To Scratch Da' Surface For My Very Own Mutilation Of Typed English Language Composition.... To Be Mentioned Here Is To Be Humbled! Spanx-A-Lot!!

Now,my daft,knuckle-dragger view of all this Censorship,Cancellation and Opinion Reshaping and Cajoling Deal is simply this: "When You're Owning It,Paying For It,Tearing Your Hair Out Fighting Bots,Lethal Digital Virus's,Condom Abusing Troll's Coupled With A Vast Variety Of Low Life Anti-Coalers,You Can Call Da' Shots On How This Place Fly's.... Yes,Even If Ya' Sent Da' Mayor A Contribution For Site Support,Ya' Still Don't Own It,You're Just Helping To Keep This Treasure Trove Alive!

There,I Said It,So Now My "Dumb Ass " Owns It! While There's Alot That's Been Changed Here That's Been Hard To Lose,It's Still The Best Coal Clearinghouse And Damned Near "Lost Info Repository" On Da' Planet...

In The End,I Can Most Assuredly Say:"Sure,I'm An *censored*,But I'm Your *censored*!" Not To Sure Where I'm Going With That Statement,Or How It'll Play Out,But What Da' Hell,You Poor,Sick Bastards May Just Get My Well-Intentioned Drift.... Yes,I Platonically Love All Of You,And This "Digital Tiny Town" That We All Gather In.!.! Well,The Boys In Da' Clean White Coats Are Here To Drop Da' Net On Me,So It's Time Ta' Go!!

I think both of you are very wise and admirable members here with how you present your ideas and knowledge. If only we could all be so blessed, the world would be such a nicer place
