Look what followed me home today, picked this up from forum member Salemcoal, real nice guy! Here are some pics of the start of this journey, I don't know of a thread on here of a full reman of one of these units, so hopefully I can cover everything and document it well. so far it needs a new combustion fan motor, possibly a new ashing motor, the updated ashing controls, the funnel end of the cyclone, and either a rebuild of the hopper or a new one made.
The rollers are like brand new, and everything has come apart great so far.
Idk what year it is, if anyone can tell me that based on the info tag that would be great!
These things are built like a tank!! There is just minor surface rust in some spots and some build up in the chamber I need to clean out.

Undercoating on the welds, is this a protection from the manufacturer? It's pretty smart- Pauliewog

I don't know anything about them, but it looks like you could heat the neighborhood with that one.
Nice find, are you planning to replace the New Yorker?

I am in the process of building a new home, so it will be ready to into it, if it's not by next winter, I might try to hook this to the New Yorker.

I am glad you got a great boiler to restore, but I have to tell you that it is too big for the home you have in mind. It will just idle all the time, and you will probably be unhappy with the amount of unburned coal in the ash.

Should never need to move snow from sidewalks and driveway at the new "crib".
Put pex tube in everything.

Haha I know mcgiever! Deff am heating the house and garage once built. The drive way is around 600 feet long so I don't think I can heat it though lol

So here is the timer for the ashing motor, should I bother trying it or buy the new setup they offer so I don't have to worry about puff backs, I understand setting the fire depth correctly so to have no puff backs, I have learned my lessons with my hand fed boiler, which way do you guys feel is the best most efficient way to control this beast?

Save your money. It will run fine with the timer once it is adjusted properly.
I bet this S260 is one of the ones Doug had stashed away in NH. He used to heat his sidewalks just to keep a load on the boiler.

Ok thanks rob, it's in amazing shape as far as what I've seen with other threads here, but of coarse idk the year? There is a "84" in the number, maybes that's what it is.

If you call AHS with the serial number they can probably give you some more info. Doesn't really matter how old it is, but it is nice to know.
The idea of building a new house is to have one with a low heat load....not one that needs an S260.

Haha ya but the new home will be not as energy efficient as I could dream it to be, and I will heat the garage also, and of coarse my dhw, and the thought has cross my mind to install it in its own small building and pipe to my home and garage,, so I think I will have enough of a load,
in my simple head, I understand that this is a 260,000 BTU boiler, but it's also just a 6 inch flue, and even the small efm 520 is 8", and it's still just 80-100 lbs (I will measure for sure in the future) of coal burning just like my hand fed boiler at idle, just more efficient.. so I would think it would do pretty good at idleing or running 40-50% load compared to a flat bed or incline stoker. But I'm no expet! We will have to see!

You will be surprised at the heat output of this boiler. The heat load of your new house and garage will not even phase it. Do not be fooled by the flue size, the fan on that thing moves a lot of air, and creates high velocity flue gasses.

If ever there were a under rated boiler, these style are them.
Few people ever find a timer to even be necessary on the AA's and AHS's. My AA-130 has never needed one, this year as with every year, it is still running straight through since early November, and needs no timer.
They usually have to let these run out of coal or plan a good 5 days in advance if they want the fire to die out on it's own...even then there could still be enough hot coals that if fan were switched on it could still come chugging back to life.
