Chimneys Caps: Cap or No Cap?

That's the thing with caps, they are a PITA. Rusting out, blowing off. If I had a low pitched roof I would put one back on but I'd have to hire someone to do mine.

I am in the same boat Fred, my stainless chimney extension rotted
off the mounting flange and fell off the chimney after 9 years and I have to buy a new cap
as a new 8 by 12 by 36" extension is over $700.00 with tax and shipping.
