Stainless steel is double the cost of regular steel stove pipe. The stove pipe vendor advised using stainless steel stove pipe for coal fire applications.
Your thoughts?
The new stove pipe is for a Chubby coal stove.
Thanks.

I should have been more specific.. The Chubby stove will be vented to a 6" clay tile/masonry chimney that runs up the outside wall of the house. Since this is a new stove installation I'm looking to purchase the steel, 24 or 22 gauge, single wall stove pipe and fittings that go from the back of the Chubby stove up to and through the clay chimney thimble.
I was on the phone with Larry Trainer from Chubby stove just a little while ago for some other business and posed the question to him. He suggested no need for the stainless steel stove pipe and to just run regular black steel pipe. I think I'm good with his recommendation.
Thanks for the reply.

I have been running 22 ga black pipe from my Keystoker to the clay thimble going on 7 years. Every spring I rinse and spray with fluid film inside and store in a dry area.

scalabro,
You're right SS lasts forever and you don't have to do anything to it.
My 7 inch Stainless Steel chimney pipe is 24 years old and all I do is
vacuum it out once a year. I know I should clean up at end of heating season
but it often ends up being fall time. I just love to procrastinate.
