Probably still cheaper than a well in parts of Wyoming. Nice gesture on someones part with the water delivery.

You are braver than me Rob. I hope it works out well.

I do not have a meter, but the new water heater collects all kinds of data that you can view on your phone. I will be sharing data in a few months.

This morning I got the new water heater for the guest cottage unpacked and compared the energy star label with the one on the old water heater. The new one is much better insulated, and has 4500 watt elements vs 3500 in the old one, so it should recover faster. I should be able to finish the install this afternoon.

The heat pump water heater is installed and has been running a few hours. So far it has cooled the basement down by 5F and there is about 1” of condensate in the pail.

To try and gain a little more capacity I installed a mixing valve. Tank is set at 140F and the mixing valve is at 120F. I have it set at “energy saver” mode, which is the factory default. I will report back after we see how it handles a few back to back showers.

Here is the kWh for week 1. It also produced about 3 gallons of condensation during that time.

How many gallons of condensate does your dehumidifier produce in one day?

Not sure, I have always run it direct to drain.

Mine puts out 2.5 gallons per day. So 17.5 gallons per week.

With everyone at home this week and the weather being extra humid the HP water heater is nearly filling a 5 gallon pail with condensate in a week's time. We are averaging about 5 kwh per day for hot water, which is less than half of what we were using with the old unit. So far so good with the HP unit.

In other news, our smart meter got installed earlier this week, so has been easy for me to monitor how much power we are using. With the in-laws staying in the guest cottage we have been using about 90 kwh per day in this hot & muggy weather. We will probably crack 100 kwh tomorrow when it is supposed to get into the 90's with high humidity.

I don't like using $20-25 per day in electricity, but considering that is covering 6 people in two houses, and everything is either air conditioned or dehumidified I probably shouldn't be complaining. It won't be long before the hot days are behind us.
