I never realized that there was a difference between the EFM, GJ and VW pot stokers. This thing is the least dramatic stoker I have ever owned.
Since we got the augers and pipes right last year, it has been flawless. Except for when I for get to feed it and it runs out of coal.
With $355 a ton coal, no, I will be going back the the heat pump water heater in a few weeks.

IMG_0001.JPG

5921.3 - 5881.1 = 40.2 hours, 5.7 hours per day.
40.2 x 7.7 = 309.5 pounds, 44.2 pounds per day.
A little less than last week.

IMG_0002.JPG

3 ashpans partly full. We might be getting into 2 ashpan season!

IMG_0004.JPG

Coal wise, we are getting low and piling coal on the auger isn't gonna cut it. Yesterday morning I saw the end of the auger gasping for coal again. Luckily I caught it in time.
IMG_0006.JPG

IMG_0006.JPG

That means it's time for the BARREL!
IMG_0005.JPG

IMG_0005.JPG

Cleaning it out, put it in and filled it up.

Hopefully that lasts til next Sunday.

I am waiting for him to put the barrel on the load cell with a digital readout. Maybe even telemetry for real-time coal consumption data.

In reality, it holds about 400 pounds. That's almost enough to get me through the week this time of year.

Pretty warm out this week. It was 83 yesterday and 74 today.
IMG_0003.JPG

5961.5 - 5921.3 = 40.2 hours, 5.7 hours per day.
40.2 x 7.7 = 309.5 pounds, 44.2 pounds per day.
Wow, exactly the same as last week!
IMG_0004.JPG

IMG_0004.JPG

Not much ash. This could have easily fit in 2 pans.
IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG

There was still coal left in the barrel today.
IMG_0005.JPG

IMG_0005.JPG

I got in the bin and filled up 9 buckets. Then filled the barrel. Its very hard to move around and bucket coal while the barrel is in the way.
IMG_0008.JPG

IMG_0008.JPG

If the weather stays mild, I figure we have 2.5 to 3 weeks of coal left.

I'd be willing to try a few ton of Sherman if your auger can get it into my bin. And once your truck is empty, I can think of all kinds of stuff to fill it with before you leave!

The power went out for a few hours yesterday. That gave me motivation to work on the Onan again. I pulled one injector, took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together. Still runs like Crap! :?
I might be going back into the injection pump.
IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0001.JPG

Anyway, the power outage didn't bother the 'Ol GJ-5 one bit. When the power came back on, it roared back to life like noth 'in happened.
IMG_0002.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG

5991.5 - 5961.5 = 30.0 hours, 4.3 hours per day.
30.0 x 7.7 = 231.0 pounds, 33.0 pounds per day.
That's new low! It was so warm out for half of the week that I had the heat turned OFF for 4 days. It's back on now and it will be chilly this week.
IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0003.JPG

Used a little over half a barrel this week.
IMG_0004.JPG

IMG_0004.JPG

As you can see, the bin is pretty well empty.
IMG_0005.JPG

IMG_0005.JPG

Only used 2 ashpans this week.
IMG_0006.JPG

IMG_0006.JPG

Filled the barrel up with the buckets I dug out of the bin last week. Still got 3 left.
IMG_0007.JPG

IMG_0007.JPG

We'll get through this coming week with no problem. We might get another week out of it if it gets warm out.

Current settings,

Motor Pulley = 2"
Gearbox Pulley = 3.5" adjustable, 2 turns out.
7.7 pounds Per Hour.
Air = 1.75 Turn, Back of the blower housing blocked off.
Inkbird Boiler control = 160 degrees, 5 degrees Hysteresis.
Draft Inducer = Med
Timer = OFF

Yesterday we had an outfire. I should have looked inside the barrel on Friday night, but I didn't.
IMG_0005.JPG

IMG_0005.JPG

Boiler was cold by the time I got up. Not a big deal, through some coal in it and fired it up again.
IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0003.JPG

This will throw off our run time hours for this week.
IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0001.JPG

6052.0 - 5991.5 = 60.5 hours. We'll say it ran with no fire for 5 hours, 5 - 60.5 = 55.5 hours. 7.9 hours per day.
55.5 x 7.7 = 427.6 pounds, 60.1 pounds per day.
That's about twice as much as last week. It has been colder, wetter and windier this week.
IMG_0002.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG

3 Ashpans this week.
IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0004.JPG

IMG_0004.JPG

That's it for the coal! Everything is in the barrel now. Hope it lasts to the weekend.
IMG_0005.JPG

IMG_0005.JPG

Yesterday I fired up the Heat Pump Water Heater to take the DHW load off the boiler. It's also gonna be warmer this week so next weekend will be shut down time.

Current settings,

Motor Pulley = 2"
Gearbox Pulley = 3.5" adjustable, 2 turns out.
7.7 pounds Per Hour.
Air = 1.75 Turn, Back of the blower housing blocked off.
Inkbird Boiler control = 160 degrees, 5 degrees Hysteresis.

Last Day!
IMG_0001.JPG

IMG_0001.JPG

We're pretty well out of coal, might make it til tomorrow morning. 70's in the coming week so no need for heat.
IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0003.JPG

IMG_0007.JPG

IMG_0007.JPG

6088.6 - 6052.0 = 36.6 hours, 5.2 hours per day.
36.6 x 7.7 = 281.8 pounds, 40.3 pounds per day.
IMG_0002.JPG

IMG_0002.JPG

Ash.
