Wix oil filters, Beware
Got my three Wix filters today, two looked normal with normal date codes.
The other a 51036 was light as a feather, looked inside and saw little filter media.
Also made in USA and different date code.
I'm not using it, what is going on???
ETA I setup a return with Amazon, they did not want me to return the filter.

Is it through Amazon or third party? I've heard of lot of trouble with these third party sellers including counterfeit merchandise.

I've used Wix filters for years. They have consistently finished near the top in comparison test of quality and filtering ability.
However, they may not be made in the same factory anymore. Or, as Richard mentioned, they might be counterfeit ?

A new company bought them awhile back, I think this may be counterfeit, or they're quality really went down.
I too have used them for years and I have never seen this.
I can squeeze it, feels like an unopened can of beer.

It's supposed to be a good filter and cost ten bucks.
I hate ordering them because I can't see the date code, and once I got one that wasn't threaded.
I just couldn't screw it on, took a few to figure it out, lol

The Amazon dealer may have gotten his stock from a store returns/defects dealer. As in someone who buys store returns or defects in bulk and then sells them to online resellers. Most are ok but then once in a while they arent.
A common example is buying pants on Amazon, Ebay, wherever. One leg might be an inch longer than the other... Many of the resellers are paying 5 cents on the dollar for a reason. They can eat the high return rate.
Whatever dealer (Im speaking of auto parts) most the big name companies also sell on those sites and if its any part that can cost you big money repairs buy it from them. Saving a buck can cost 100's or 1000's if you dont. Even straight from walmart is a better gamble sometimes.
And thats besides the counterfeits mentioned....
