Not enough copper to supply the EV demands being forced on us.

There is plenty at a price...
Much copper is recycled and its value is good...
https://www.google.com/search?q=price+of+scrap+co ... serp#tts=0
$3.85 per # is real good... More will come out of the stock that has been saved up...
Many are paying up to $4.50 a pound.. For clean #1 copper...

That maybe the price for copper now, but the article is not about now.BigBarney wrote: ↑Tue. May. 28, 2024 5:25 pm There is plenty at a price...

It is about the future massive demand for copper if EVs become as common place as you keep saying our "future" should be, plus the other massive demand for power grid and charging upgrades needed to feed them. Anyone can see that as demand increases and supply cannot keep up then prices skyrocket.
Been to Lowes or Home Depot and priced wiring lately ? It's going $.50 a foot just for standard 12-2 Romex and that will go up.
Plus the last time copper demand and prices jumped, so did copper theft take a jump. That's what started the laws to show your driver's license when going to the metal recycling center.
It's all economics 101 and only those wearing rose-colored glass will think otherwise.

Remember 60% of copper is recycled ...
https://www.copper.org/environment/lifecycle/g_re ... wire%20rod.
Copper will follow lead in being recycled...
"A Sustainability Star: Lead Batteries Maintain Impressive 99% Recycling Rate. As we celebrate America Recycles Day 2023 on November 15, it's important to highlight the remarkable sustainability achievements of the lead battery industry."
"According to a 2023 study by Battery Council International (BCI), the U.S. recycles 99% of lead batteries, which is the highest recycling rate of any consumer product in the country. This closed-loop recycling process keeps around 160 million lead batteries out of landfills each year. The lead, plastic, and acid components of lead batteries are all 100% recyclable, and the lead can be recycled endlessly without losing its effectiveness. In fact, new lead batteries can contain more than 80% recycled material."

Any person with wisdom in finance that has money should consider purchasing a copper mining stock or two.
I would find one that is inexpensive and profitable.
Seems like a good industry to put an investment.
That stock CXBMF that I speak so highly of has copper coming from their mines.

They are down $0.10 today. Great buy!

Auto batteries at COSTCO jumped $4.00 from last week to today. Although no copper in it that's quite a jump in a week. Bought an Interstate at $119.99 for my Avalon. Was at COSTCO today looked up the size for the Tacoma (same size) and saw the price of $123.99.
And these are good times???

They actually are good times. The $4 increase is actually a savings because it should have gone up $12. Thank Joe Biden!snuffy wrote: ↑Wed. And if the EV pushers get their way the projected increased demand for copper to feed the EV and grid needs will make that look cheap.
Plus, there is the push to outlaw all gas appliances and go all electric, like NY governor Botox Kathy and a few other states are pushing for.

That's not the dollar collapsing, that is the stupidity of minting a coin that cost more to mint than it's face value and it's been like that for decades. The penny should have been removed a long time ago, it barely had value when I was a kid in the 70's. Might as well get rid of the nickel as well. I was the last generation you could actually buy something for a penny and that was only for loose candy at the corner store... another thing my generation saw the last of.

There goes the uptick in copper thieves again. The recycle centers need to be regulated and anyone turning in copper needs to be a documented and photographed as a legitimate LEGAL recycler. The idiots around here were actually prying up and stealing manhole covers out of the street with the name of the water company cast into them and trying to cash them in for steel scrap. Im surprised all those brass flower holders are still there at the cemetery . A metal thief's dream waiting to be plucked

All my life I have heard people say, "there needs to be a law about that."
Well guess what? There are so many laws now the average citizen commits 3 felonies a day.
I have a load of scrap I will be bringing to the yard in the near future.
The problem is not scrap and or scrap yards. It goes way deeper than that. There are already enough laws on the books and enough surveillance and documentation for everything.
I don't want or need anymore.

Not exactly ,.they had to come up with an entirely new law in florida to force sheriffs and cops to arrest squatters. As if they dont recognize fraud when the see it. Plus they had to make penalties more severe. Sur ealready has ahalf dozen laws that should have covered it. Its no tlact of laws but lack of enforcement.
