Good afternoon. As always I turn to you experts for help. After a few years and numerous hours of reading the forum I have become very happy with the way my Harman Magnum is heating our home. Of course, I am a bit obsessive about things that now have me nitpicking. (The stove was here at the home when we bought it so this has been a learning curve for me.)

Question:

1. This might sound crazy, but can someone explain to me in fine detail, the feed adjustment? I have always just turned the tube clockwise or counterclockwise and not messed with the adjuster or wingut. I now worry that I am doing this wrong and might have worn something as the tube doesn't want to turn counterclockwise. Why, well I feel like I had to deep of a coal bed for only pushing 1 1/4 dots. (The bed seems way too thick)

2. My dot movement starts a titch before the second dot and currently moves just past the third dot. In my mind it should start at the first dot.....is this something that wasn't done correctly at installation? Something I can correct when it is empty and I have it torn apart?

3. I am considering the full time combustion fan theory for days like today when it is in the mid 40's and the stat isn't calling for heat very often. I'd like a better granola ash on days like today. (Ive read a lot but wanting personal exp.) Is this safe for the motor? Does it help that much?

Thanks again for your help. Your advice and experiences have proved invaluable.

Deanna

Anyone? I am shutting it down today as it will be at or near 60 for the next couple days with mild overnights. So, if I have a chance to "check the guts"....I would love to!

I use the wing nut adjuster to set how much length of fire in the firebox. There's a picture in the manual of overtired, underfire, and optimal fire. I'd always opt to 1" of ash on the edge. Another thing with the wing nut adjuster is that it would sometimes come loose. Whenever I'd have feed issues I'd start by checking that adjuster.

If you've been manually turning the tube that shouldn't have changed the feed much because the tube will move to where ever the wing nut is set when it strokes in.

Personally, I didn't worry about how many dots it was pushing as much as I tried to maintain 1" of ash on the end of the fire.

I never tried the constant combustion fan, on warmer days I'd just open a door or window to make the stove run enough to keep the fire lit. But I think it'd be fine for the fan because mine have lasted over 15 years with periodic cleanings.

Here's a link to the manual if that helps. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/878549/Harman-M ... toker.html
