That's two down, approximately 5 to go and perhaps as little as 2. The speculation from the first one was a Patriot battery, they only need to light it up for split second and fire the missile. Then the Patriot battery gets the hell out Dodge. The missile is autonomous after it's fired. It's not a very long range and it's going to be there in no longer than a minute, much less If they are suing the Israeli version of the missile. Warning or no warning they are screwed once it's fired.

The reports put this one patrolling over land east of the Sea of Azov, which is a very long way from any Ukrainian held territory. This would be out of range of even the long-range version of the Patriot missiles.Richard S. wrote: ↑Fri. Feb. 23, 2024 10:42 pm That's two down, approximately 5 to go. Their A-50 is said to have a 200 mile radar range and google earth measures about 250 miles from around there to the nearest Ukrainian held territory. I guess they don't have onboard counter measures, or fighter escorts like we use with our AWACS ?

They way Afg. defeated their superpower aggressors was brilliant. Let them move in almost without a shot and them run covert operations for years until they get tired of it an leave. Too late for Ukraine to try this they are mostly dead already.

I propose a war tax. Enact a consumption national sales tax that covers every dollar sent abroad for any reason. Then the folks can see what this and all the other foreign spending is costing right up front. Not hidden in the inflation that the debt is causing.ColdHouse wrote: ↑Fri. The financial cost is nothing when considering that Ukraine is the country getting destroyed and Ukrainian lives are the ones lost in the pursuit of defeating that evil, lying, dictator Putin, and defending American Democracy! Ra Ra USA, USA, USA!!

A war tax is a good idea. At least everyone has some skin in the game and people might think twice. To be clear though our Ukrainian support is not a war, it's trying to prevent a larger scale war. Better to be penny wise than a pound foolish.

But its not clear that our support may just as likely cause a wider war, not prevent one.
55% of the population oppose more aid.

I am against any new tax. The problem we have is not a Revenue problem but a spending problem. Taxes have a way of never going away and satiating the beasts appetite is not possible.k-2 wrote: ↑Sat. I do not wish money extorted from me via taxes or inflation.
Those that want to fund the Ukraine or Israel or any other effort should freely do so. I encourage any person that wants to fund to send their money directly to the effort! Set up a fundukraine.com site and donate till your heart is content.

The Afghanis were able to make Russia's invasion a nightmare because we gave them stinger missiles. Once they lost the sky they lost their eyes. US casualties were hovering around 12 per year for the last 6 years of the occupation. For almost a year and half before we left it was 0 until the last month with a spike of 13.
I would expect Russians are going to face a multi year insurgency if they are able to defeat Ukraine on the battlefield.

True. No new taxes is good too. Ha Ha. Problem is though, starting back in Dessert Storm people started looking at war as a video game. Videos of guided missiles hitting buildings and bridges and people. No sacrifice by most people especially the higher earners whose kids went to college rather than the military. Maybe a tax on people that don't join the military.

A report this morning says too far from any place a Ukrainian missile could reach it. It may have been the Russians accidently shot down their own plane. Would not surprise me considering how many times they screwed up in other ways.waytomany?s wrote: ↑Sat. Feb. 24, 2024 8:25 am Patriot pac-2?

Perhaps it wouldnt be needed as just the idea of anew tax may make the general population a lot less likely to go for the whole idea. 55% of the population is already against more involvement and funding and growing. As it drags on for years numbers of those in favor are declining. And yes anyone wanting to fund Zelinskies retirement is welcome to send him cash directly. On a salary of $900 a month he is already has a net worth of $25 Million.
