It’s also very windy today. Maybe that’s causing it
So should I fall completely closed when there is no fire burning etc ?
I just took the damper off and with it perfectly level and plumb the flap stays open the same amount.
So it’s not opening from a draft. It’s just staying that way from the weight. I’m wondering if I need less weight for some reason.

If windy then probably ok, cause that would cause it to open. Mine will bounce in heavy winds when not burning. You have to let go the feeling you are losing heat into the chimney. You're not. But it's hard to get over it.
On another note. I had to mount it 3’ above the top of stove. Is there any issues with that ? In the manual it says as close to the stove as possible is better.
If you don't have a manometer and it's level, just set it between 4.5 (-.045) and 5.5 (-.055) using the markings on the baro and forget about it. Many hand feds recommend it set at -.06 but I'd start a little lower without a manometer.
Found out what’s wrong. There is a counter weight that sit on the backside of the door. It was laying loose in the box. They are telling me I have to return it. Anyone else know how that counter weight gets held on? It doesn’t seem to have threads. Looks like it gets pressed in maybe

Thank you!
It’s actually pressed on. I found out from them. It has a beveled nipple that gets pushed through.
Are you able to push it on or do you still need to exchange it?
