He'll have to put a trailer hitch on his Tesla and plan for a 12 hr trip to account for refuel stops.

I had a 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid ... it ran on all electric (EV mode) for whopping 2 mile "spurts" in all-EV mode. It could run in all EV for 2 miles, then the ICE would kick in...10 miles down the road the batteries would be recharged and you could get another 2 miles on EV.

I slapped a trailer hitch on it...had no problems towing with it on all-EV.

That car had a 100K warranty with its catalytic converters where the all ICE Altima had 60K ...sure enough the car's cat went out at 95K..took 3 weeks for the dealer to figure out that the car had 5K left on the warranty. Then free cat installed, saving me $3000. And in that 3 week time frame I sought an exemption to emissions testing (found out cat was bad during a test). My state disregarded federal law (if it costs too much then you get get an exemption~at least at that time--anyone has a cat issue or expensive emission repair issue ? I could likely find the part of federal law or CFR, just shoot a note to me) and said I had to spend the 3 grand and then if it failed then they would grant the exemption to emissions -- the complete opposite of federal law; I was about to file a civil suit when the dealer called and said it was covered by the warranty so it cost me nothing....the state dodged a bullet on that one.
