Anthracite Price Per Ton for the 2022-2023 Heating Season

Im planning to get a minisplit for Ac so may as well get a good one and do spot heat as well. Ill still need something bigger when it really gets cold though. For some reason Minisplits are more efficient than whole house heat pumps in general.

I installed this one over the weekend, ordered from Amazon instead of pioneer direct due to 5% cash back.
So far I am blown away at how well it works and little energy it uses. The house was up to 78F since I was letting the stove burn out during the warm spell, I used the AC on the split to cool the room down to 67F, slept like a baby then heated it back up to 75+ while I showered in the morning. It was in the 30s outside and it had zero issues pumping heat so hot you didn't want to stand directly in front of it. My energy is free, I was a solar sceptic years ago, I'll never go back...
Currently it has no issues keeping ~600 sq f at 73, I don't expect it to keep up with the whole house in the dead of summer but I have a midea inverter window AC I bought last year to help it out.

I'm going to go soft coal as soon as I can make a trip to Dubois. Anthracite is gouging to the point of demand destruction. Just had the propane truck here. For the time investment the juice ain't paying for the squeeze.

I calc it out... saving about 8 bucks per heating day. Bit would be much better....

In 1933 a ton of nut coal delivered was $2.25c . In terms of dollar value that makes the US dollar now worth one half of 1 penny if paying $450 per ton. Even if you can get the coal for $225 you still only have a dollar buying power shrink to a single penny 90 yrs later.

In 1934 a college educated civil engineer age 40 made $285/yr (Per the wage chart info I found) based on 2080 working hours that's $0.14 an hour so he had to work 16 hrs for that ton of coal. The last I looked a post high school kid working at a Sheetz/Rutters/McArnolds is making $19-20/hour meaning he/she/they/them/xir/xim only has to work 10-12 hours for that same ton of coal today at $225/ton. If we use the $450/ton it goes to 23 hours but that's still for an uneducated starting laborer. A college educated civil engineer might only work 8 to 9 hours for that $450/ton coal. Yes, the dollar is valueless but the value of time has increased dramatically.
