To be fair, early on there didn't seem to be much need for us to get involved after Hitler invaded Poland. Google "The Phony War". Except for the Poles, the war didn't get really started until Spring of 1940. And America did help before we declared war on the Axis powers. Infact starting only three months after the invasion of Poland in September of 1939.

Then there were US Citizens and organizations sending guns and supplies to Britain, also not long after the war started.
