Well it does come with 1.5 + or - tons of coal so that's $600 or so right there. I asked if the "auto control box" and the "blower control" were there and he said he was going to takes photos. Waiting on that.

I wanted to make sure it was complete before starting to bargain.

To me that does not look like 1.5 tons of coal. 40 cubic feet approx for a ton. That looks like much less to me

i just saw your shop size, 1800 square foot. Unless it's well insulated, that stove is going to struggle to heat your shop.

The specs say "up to 2500 Sq.Ft." Is that too optimistic?

I think you're right. I was looking up 40 cubic feet and one example is 2 full size family refrigerators. So, to me that might be a half ton.
Thanks,

It's hard to tell because there's not much reference to size. Is that side it's up against 8 feet wide? If so then I would guess it's closer to a ton.

So another question. I currently have 8 inch triple wall pipe. The stove is 6 inch. It looks like the current owner has a 6" to 8"adaptor right at the stove and into a barometric damper.

Is that a satisfactory setup?

I guess that would depend if they all are the same connections?

That baro needs located higher up if possible. As is a lot of very hot air is being whisked up the chimney.

I had my baro a few feet away from the stove outlet when I had the alaska stove at the old place. You can run 6" single wall stove pipe and damper and adapt it to the 8" double wall pipe.

So I bought a stove today but not the one I had been looking at. That guy refused to budge on the price which after quite a bit of searching seemed high to me, [and to you guys].

Opened FB Market Place this morning and there was an Alaska Channing III less than a mile from my house.

The crazy thing was, many, many years ago the guy selling it lived about a half a block down from my grandparents in their old neighborhood Baltimore. He was maybe 10 years younger than me but recognized me right away. It took me a minute. He was one of the "younger guys" [maybe 12-14 at the time] who would come by my garage, always interested in what I was working on. Probably haven't seen him in 50 years. Small world.

I guess he had pity on the "old guy" as he's delivering the stove to my shop. Nice guy.

Anyway the stove is complete and clean as a whistle. Seems he bought it for his new shop which has tube floor heating and as a result he didn't use it a lot.

A very nice shop as well!

I'm sure I'll have a few more questions at set-up time, but for now, Thanks so much for everyone's help.

Nice stove!
I have floor heat in my garage also. I have a efm 350 boiler in the basement of the house that heats the house and the shop.

I'm completing a 32' x 40' addition to my existing shop. The original shop was a crappy 30 x 60 horse barn that I renovated about 20 years ago. Board and batten and no insulation, but, I could turn on the oil furnace and be comfortable quite quickly. But nowadays, that co$t$!
In the winter I fired up the waste oil heater which when going good, let oil furnace cut off, only coming on once in a while. But, the waste oil stove was messy and to be honest, a PIA.

The new addition has tube heat in the floor and I'm hoping the coal stove will reduce the demand for the oil furnace.
After the new addition is done, the next task will be insulation and new metal siding on the barn.

New addition;

As you can see it's still a work in progress. Progress is a little slow as with post-covid prices I'm so far over budget I may as well not even had a budget!
Primary goal is moving a 28' ChrisCraft I'm restoring from a boat shed to my property.

Again, I'm sure I'll have a few more questions,
Thanks for everyones help!

Got the stove hooked up and operational.

Another question. Do I need a damper in addition to the barometric damper?

Thanks,
rob
