As bad as that is, most people seem content to just pay it rather than do something else. I have only had one friend seriously consider some form of alternate heating.
Not me, i stopped buying oil when it hit at $1.20 a gallon .Still have about 200 gallon at that price. My daughter just bought a house that has oil heat and were already making arrangements to change it to Nat gas. The Whole conversion will not cost as much as 1 winter of oil. Nat gas is roughly a quarter to a fifth of the price of oil here. Many rural homes here have oil
heat,no gas line available.

Have seen a crush of people buying wood stoves...
And a few Hitzer coal stoves...
A few wondered if nat gas might get shut off...
Put a limit on how much coal we will sell to a single person per day...
Just to keep the stock pile at a normal level...
Pellets are coming in but tight supply on the quality pellets...
Lehigh came down a bit on the wholesale coal price...
but still way above last year...

Well of course, why else would you be chatting on a forum about alternative heating?

It has gone up about 10% over last year. No where near the 100% for coal. I suppose its not like the Gas company can send it all to Europe for more money like they can with coal.

I have a few rental houses that still have oil heat as there is no gas line available.

Trucking to 'The Cape' in zip 02601 was quoted as $80/ton...
We do TT loads so about 23 tons...
Diesel has jumped up in price so could reach $100/ton shortly...
Price dropped $50/ton on the wholesale end FOB Lehigh at the breaker...
We are pricing our retail at our expected replacement cost...

You’d be wrong again K 2…NG by the super tankers were already running there way before Putin got his game going.
But no worries there is lots more capacity coming by 2026.

Propane was also high last year because of exports long before Ukraine. Sellers sell where the money is. Its a world wide market with any fuel. Add in greed sometimes.
Hopefully its a mild winter everywhere but in Russia this winter. If it ends out colder its anyones guess what will happen with prices.
Just wait until the demand goes up for horse hide blankets for warmth. Thats when I know things are really rough or that things are going in the right direction!
That should at least drop the price of glue...

Well you might be wrong again cuz Europe has no room to store any more.
"Europe now has so much natural gas that prices just dipped below zero"

Sold some blood and filled up with #2 heating oil about 3 weeks ago. Paid $5.50/gal. It had just come down a bit. Current price from the same place is now $4.18 a gal. Commodities market now at $3.35/gal for Dec. contracts. Still insane. Likely go up and down some more in the future.
Relit the handfired a couple of weeks ago and have made a nice dent in the coal pile. Not sure what will happen next year after this Winter's $272/ton nut is gone.

At $2 a gallon for crude heating oil is way overpriced. Shouldnt be more than a $1 or so over the price of crude. No road tax of 76c a gallon like gasoline and still it $2 more than Gasoline.

Heating oil commodity market, Dec. dropped a little more to $3.24 ($.11 gal drop)
My dealer now dropped $.28/gal more to $3.90/gal delivered. Only dropping because we're heading down the slop tank.
Glad it's dropping, but I'm not happy about paying $200. more a month ago. Buy high and sell low is often my motto
