My son due to a enlarged family had to buy a new suv . While i was a painful time to buy he pulled the trigger out of necessity. He bought a kia sorento hybrid. It gets 32 mile electric only . Its enough to
power all there daily commutes to drive shop even to travel to a nearby park to swim. They have a adequate photo voltaic system that it gets it recharge from their home solar system that has already paid for it cost of installation >( our labor not included)
It turns out to be the dream I had in my 20s (1970) a car powered by the sun.

Hope it works out good. I can see that making more sense when you already have panels to charge you own car.

i like the idea. i tried to get a used chevy volt (plug in hybrid) in 2018 but found a real good deal on a 2013 hyundai sonata hybrid. My sonata hybrid is not a plug in but i get 36 mpg and i do mostly short trips. if i take a highway trip i can get mid 40's
Our Chevy Bolt EV got 130 mpg on 100% electric.
The Tesla does even better at 140 mpg .
Less than $0.02 per mile or < $1.00 gasoline.
So mpg in the 30's is no big deal, Why haul around all
that ICE engine iron? More to go wrong too.

Yeah, but the fire department can put out the fire from an ICE, not a tesla fire.
When last did you hear of a Tesla fire?
Petrol car fires in the 117,000 per year rate.About 320 per day.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a40163966/cars- ... tatistics/
EV's the lowest at 25 per 100,000. Hybrids worst at 3475 per 100,000 per year.
EV's will even get better with LiFePo batteries.
Read it and weep....

You mean you didn't hear of the tesla battery that burned for over 12 hours( I'm not looking up the article) with the fire department pouring on it? Or the mega battery, or whatever elon calls them, in Australia that burned out of control and they were afraid would take out the entire installation? Listen, I'm all for SAFE, reliable, energy at a reasonable price. I'm not a fan of the whole, let's drive a Tesla because it saves the earth argument. Should we be stewards of the environment? Yes. Is mining lithium good for the environment? Not a chance in hell. Are there better ways? Maybe, let's keep looking for them.BigBarney wrote: ↑Fri.
