If thats as full as your filling it theres room for more coal, unless theres something Im seeing wrong (always possible). Or is that after shaking? It would be ok then.

I had one stove with a hopper and they do save time loading. Takes away some fire view though. Bimetalic dampers are real nice. Good steady temp with them without a baro. Hard to say which of the two I'd want first.

I had a baro with a bimetallic on the DS. I needed it for the bituminous coal but it work fine that way with anth.

Newest addition to the Kodiak. Variable speed control for the blower fan. Thought I'd like to experiment with slowing the fan down a bit. $18 off Amazon.

Latest addition for this year is the bimetal thermostatic damper. Well worth the $125. Install took 15 min. Learning curve was 1/2 a day. Set it at midway between low and high (12 o'clock) the stove maintained 330* for 24 hours with no further adjustment. Moved it to 1100 and the temp maintains at 450*. When it gets colder I'll try for 1000 and see if I get 550. Kinda doubt if it's that linear, but we'll see. Next up the hopper!

They’re around $2000 + new.
I think I paid around 2400 for mine back in 2009.

What do you mean by “1100 ... and ...1000 and see if I get 500”?

1000 and 1100 refer to clock positions on the thermostat dial and 550 refers to stove temperature. I am trying to determine the correlation between the thermostat setting and the actual stove temperature.
