Hello,
I understand the importance of 3 screws per section of black pipe. How do I secure the pipe to the stove? My Hitzer 30-95 has one hole drilled in the part the pipe attaches to. Is that one screw sufficient? How about where my pipe goes into the chimney thimble? I just have it pushed in a couple inches like my owners manual tells me. I have Rockwool insulation pushed in around the pipe to make a better seal against the thimble.
I am planning on starting my first fire tomorrow, just want to make sure everything is properly secured.
thanks.

Three screws in EVERY connection. I generally try to get a foot of stovepipe into the thimble but I would think six inches would work.

My 50-93 also has that one hole in exit titty--been good for 10+ yrs--use appropriate size self tapping screw. As for thimble--just don't go in to far.

The rule for pipe into the chimney thimble is the pipe should not extend past the inside wall of the chimney flue - just up to it.
What you don't want to happen is if anything should drop down inside the chimney it gets stopped on top of the stove pipe and that may cause a restriction or blockage of exhaust going up the chimney because the pipe was extending into the chimney.
Worst case is, the pipe is so far into the chimney and is too close to the far side of the chimney flue which can restrict the exhaust exiting the stove pipe.

The 503 insert has one hole in the collar...
When inserted no other angle will work...
It does have the weight of 7 feet of flex above it and stuffed with rockwool on the sides...
Several booms for fun and testing not a problem with the one screw...

+1. The extra time spent to make it happen is worth not having Mr. Murphy show his face.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Fri. Mar. 05, 2021 10:50 amThree screws in EVERY connection. I generally try to get a foot of stovepipe into the thimble but I would think six inches would work.

I'll second what Fred said. The one hole in stove exhaust is fine.freetown fred wrote: ↑Fri. Mar. 05, 2021 11:55 amMy 50-93 also has that one hole in exit titty--been good for 10+ yrs--use appropriate size self tapping screw. As for thimble--just don't go in to far.

Remember B, mines old & I've found a 5/8 works real well--kinda hard at first but she settles in!! I'm thinkin I might try 3/4 next season--yep, yep, could be hinges, warpage, etc-- Don't care--if a thicker gasket works---I'm a happy old farmer!!

Would like to see you give a review on your 354 sometime to see how you like it. Do you burn coal and wood? Would love to hear how some use them for wood burning.
I think I would like the single door. I really like how it looks.
