I have not heard anything about 50/50 mix being prohibit for heating use. I suspect your supplier just doesn't carry it anymore. Ask them for a price on off-road diesel next time.freetown fred wrote: ↑Tue. Sep. 22, 2020 3:38 amTook 2 15 gall. jugs & bought local.Had Amish neighbor hand crank it into fuel tank. I don't remember exactly--imagine that--but I'm pretty sure they said it was due to some state thing--

Maybe when the septic is being pumped, you can throw the driver a few exra bucks, and he could vacuum out your pit.Richard S. wrote: ↑Tue. Sep. 22, 2020 6:29 amThat is how it is at my parents but there is no access to the pit it goes into.

It's elaborate setup. There is two fireplaces but the one in basement is offset from the the one upstairs, the basement fireplace has no cleanout. There is three flues, one for each fireplace and additional one for central heating. All of it sits on space about 10 square feet. I'm guessing they assumed the void was enough to last a lifetime with wood ash. My parents rarely use the fireplaces, in fact I don't think they have been used in 5 years. I used to light them for holidays and parties etc. but I was living there at the time.
I know the previous owner didn't use them because they had SS liners without a spec of creosote on them for the fireplaces. The original owner of the house that built it in 50's would of had a coal boiler so I doubt they used them much either. Perhaps some generation down the road might fill it.

I'm not sure who your supplier was but while there are a lot of bull**** regulations in this state fuel can still be blended.freetown fred wrote: ↑Tue. Sep. 22, 2020 7:37 amI don't remember exactly--imagine that--but I'm pretty sure they said it was due to some state thing--
Our off road fuel and heating oil can still be cut with "dyed" kerosene or #1 fuel oil.
Your supplier has to be hauling both in different compartments and blending at your site as everyone wants a different ratio.
Then add on that some kerosene is still sold as krystal clear which you have to sign an affidavit that it is only going to be used for off road or heating purposes only, it is also expensive.
All liquid fuel oil has to be ultra low sulfur, doesn't matter if it is for heating or motor fuel.
To get back on topic I just confirmed my pricing for Nut coal at $265/ton for 3 or more ton at a time, I'll be picking up a 4 ton load for my brother and a 3 ton load for me as I still have more then 2 ton left from last year.
All three of my heating options are very close in cost this year,
my oil actually came in lowest as I filled in August at $1.20,
my electric at $0.14 per KW with my heat pump ties with my coal.
I will use my coal because we will keep the front half of the house much warmer then required and warmer then I tend too with the oil or electricity.

Picked up my coal for the season yesterday. 10,100 lbs. of Lehigh rice from The Mill in Whiteford Maryland. It was $210.00 per ton when you bought 5 or more. They have always offered preseason pricing before the end of august but they didn't this year so I waited until now to buy it. The said Lehigh did not give then any reduced preseason pricing. Not sure I believe that.
My truck and trailer weighed exactly 10,000 lbs. Seemed odd but I got out of the truck and it dropped to 9,840. Yea, that's me, 260 lbs. When I got weighed after loading it was exactly 20,100 lbs.

Picked up a few bags at local TSC (Butler, PA) yesterday for $6.49@, less than last years by .50 opened this morning and is nice and dry. Usually buy a weeks worth at a time and open inside house to dry, may be able to skip this step.
