I have a k6 stoker. Heating a 2 story home and garage. I’m currently 13 turns out. I have my air down to nothing and yet the coal is burning so hot it is caking and not sliding down very well. Any thoughts ideas? Also 2 pins every 15 mins . Also using the k6 for my DHW.

Welcome.

Are you adjusting the main air flap? Or only the one on the secondary flower that runs all the time?

I have my secondary blower completely shut. My main blower neck down just about as much as it will go.

You can try increasing the feed, but it sounds like you got some coal that is prone to creating clinkers. I would try different coal.

I had that problem (Lehigh coal). I used duct tape to close off the primary air more than the flapper would allow (there is a big hole where the shaft for the gear reduction box goes through). Also closed the secondary blower way down and reduced the feed rate. Keystoker recommended mixing in some buck to resolve things. Looks like the right mix is about 30% buck based on what I am seeing this year. You might want to shut down and sand the grates just in case you have some rough spots.

I took advantage of the warmer weather last week. Shut down sanded my grates fired back up and is working (better) still clinkering but not as bad. It is enough to drive a guy crazy. I did the same thing with the duck tape. I know have the tape off and back to my normal air settings. Might change where I get my coal next year.

I’d try mixing in some buck to break it up. I have a k-4 and running straight rice had similar issues. I went to a 50/50 rice and buck and have had zero issues since.

Hello and good morning Adam,
I am coming to this discussion late.
I have a 2015 kaa-4-1 with the single blower.
I would suggest that you unplug the secondary blower from the power source.
You are still pushing some air under the fire grate from that blower at all times as the fan is still pulling air through the housing even though the air door flap is closed.

Is there a reason you are running rice instead of buck?
