100 pounds of Eastern Kentucky stoked. Elvira might not be the prettiest thang out there but she sure throws the heat and makes your clothes come off. Shes a bit burning beast and the best investment I think I ever made. I do have pretty with a GW #8 or Oakvale Andes but hard coal very expensive here in these Mountains of Southwest Va. This WM #400 might not be the most efficient stove out there but for burning Bituminous and holding 100 pounds she's hard to beat.

Nice pics. Looks like you have the right beast for the job! I ran a slightly smaller WM 500 ( 80-90 pounder?) with Anthracite some years a go. Hungry, but a heat monster when you wanted it. It would take 3-4 days to go out cold on a shutdown.

Any stove that can handle 100 pounds of bit is a pretty stove in my book! Thats a lot of heat!

I sure wish I could get my hands on one of those. A few years ago a guy about 20 miles from me had a brand new one that had never been used. He wanted $465 for it. I thought that was way too high. I regret not buying it now.

I saw one for sale on here, new old stock somewhere in PA . $1,300 still on the pallet. Great stoves for burning bit.

I have the same model. Been burning anthracite in it. Bit is hard to find in this part of Va.
A couple days ago I shook it a bit too hard and the slider broke into pieces. The iron wouldn't weld worth a damn so I just bent and welded up some rebar for temporary while waiting for the replacement. It works incredibly well maybe shouldn't have bothered ordering a new one. Hillbilly, where do you get your bit?

I get my bit at Hills Coal and Trucking Galax Va. $125.00 ton. I would love to burn Hard Coal but, Cost and availability plus travel makes it more sensible to burn bit. Live in a 100 year old house with some modern updates . Burn 5 to 6 ton a year.

I may go to them for next year. As it is I have to drive about an hour to Christiansburg for hard coal at a little over 400$ a ton. I'll burn about 4 ton this year. Same deal with me,been rehabbing 100+ yr old house.. mine didn't even have indoor plumbing when I bought it.

Yeah it's ironic as all get out. I'm a little north of Roanoke Va. almost every day a train passes my house with literally thousands of tons of low vol met coal. And I have to drive at least an hour in any direction to buy any at all, then pay through the nose for what Ok CAN get.

Are you buying your coal at tractor supply? I was thinking it was a little cheaper there. But then again after the coal last year I don’t think I would want to pay full price for it. I am currently burning bit from Hill’s coal and trucking. I know there was a Guy selling Coal on Facebook for under 100 a ton Around Covington.

Yes Tractor supply is a bit cheaper (and even a slightly shorter drive to Lexington) but it seems to produce clinkers at an alarming rate. The Blaschak I get in Christiansburg is much better. I wish I had a way to load bulk but my vehicle is a van.otherwise I'd be down at Hill's tomorrow. I'll look into Covington but I worry that at that price it might be that really high volatile trash out of West Virginia.fizban wrote: ↑Thu.
