Hey All, thought you might find this humourous:

I took 1000lbs of anthracite over 250km (~160 miles) from the depot that sells it to home. No closer location, unfortunately, so we made a day of it. A Tesla hauls coal pretty well - we could have fit a lot more bags in the car actually, but we bought all of the nut size they had!

That's pretty cool. There was a guy here posted how he hauled his coal with a Prius I believe. How did the suspension react? Does it have a leveling system to compensate for all that weight?

my cousin has hauled bagged coal in his prius c a few times. car handled 800 lbs distributed evenly just fine. no leveling system.
i'm not hauling coal in my 2013 sonata hybrid, it's too clean and bagged coal costs more than bulk delivery.

I burn Bituminous coal bulk so I don't haul it in my Tesla Model 3.
My Chevy Bolt is too small for a coal hauler.
But they are both excellent cars and once you go electric there's
no going back to dinosaur fueled vehicles.

my issues with electric cars is recharging on long trips.
i decided to buy a hybrid instead. bought a 2013 hyundai sonata hybrid used for $7,500
i can fill the tank and use the restroom and get a snack and stretch my legs and be back on the road in less than 15 minutes. then i can go 600 miles.

I agree with the charging on long trips, i have a 2013 Ford C-Max hybrid. it's a fun little car. i have hauled 750 lbs of landscape tiles and such, never hauled coal with it, but does pretty well. it can get 500-600 miles on a tankful on a good day!
How often do you need 500-600 in a day?
Per AAA average trip is <30 miles .

Kinda like me buying a truck to go camping 3 times a year.

We're about to have an ice storm hit tonight with a good chance of a power outage, that stove is far from scrap.
Seriously though, I was happy when I noticed that driving home there was only a small decrease in range, and we needed to stop at a supercharger anyhow along the way. What's that cost us, an extra five minutes watching Netflix on the car's built-in console / instrument screen?
The usual is 300 miles of range. After that, you'll need a bathroom break or you should stretch your legs anyhow. At the very least the seats recline to a sleeping position. Nap, anyone?
On Monday I'll be driving it from Barrie, Ontario to Sarasota, Florida for business. The car says the trip will take about 10% longer with charging I'm okay with that. Might even pick up some coal in Pennsylvania on my way home.

Of course, all EVs are simply mobile storage units for fossil fuel generated electricty.

Unless you have green energy. I know in my house the dirty energy (black wire) hurts like a mother when touched but the renewable energy (green wire) doesn't do anything.
