Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Juanita, Forced Air, Coaltrol Auto feed
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Post by Inksmere » Sun. Dec. 01, 2019 8:39 pm

A Reading Juanita auto feeder. bought 4 years ago, from a lady that thought it was too much work. burning Lehigh rice, heating 1800 sq. ft. , forced hot air. This is 1st year w/ Lehigh (best I’ve ever burned!). It’s not fancy but, it does the trick to keep us warm + cozy.

Haven’t done a review. It an ugly square box that makes heat. Prefer an antique oak but anthramax does job it was intended to. When had it in living room a freind would stay weekend. In the morning he would say “every time that thing would rattle it would cook me off the couch”. One time he actually slept on floor behind couch.

Now that is funny.

Did the same thing once at a friends house in the country...’cept they had a wood stove.

I slept in the living room and the couch got real cold. Next morning his mom noticed the little perfectly cut rounds with the red ribbon tide around them were missing from the basket. I wonder what happened to them? As it turned out...those rounds had been in that basket for years as a decoration....near the wood stove no less.😄

Turns out...there was a basketball size hole in the wall near the floor behind the couch...and those few little rounds kept just enough heat in the stove to keep me resting good on the couch with my head near the stove. By daybreak I was shivering again. Lol!

On the left? A few things:

Piggyback oven
"Vulcan" stove fan - uses a sterling engine to spin the fan
Cast iron tea kettle on one of the stove trivets

Glad you enjoy the image, it's in my studio keeping me warm while I work. :)

I'll take that as a compliment, Bill! :)

I need to get a cast done of the firepot and grates just to ensure that I can keep this gem running for a generation to come.

I’d have a couple cast if I could afford it just to be sure.
