I heard some noise outside my house today, and as amazing as it sounds, the long rumored natural gas line is finally going in on our street. Horizontal drilling at its finest. Should be completed by month end according to a worker I quizzed on it. He was the guy doing the drilling.

Yes, it's all coming together now. I plan to get a NG boiler installed.

That is what I would do, put in a nice Cogeneration Or Trigeneration Unit.

In fact that is exactly what I am doing. Right now, at current electric prices; it is right at the tipping point. It is a little cheaper to buy grid electricity, but barely.

For me it is not so much that I am off-grid, as much as it is, I COULD be off grid if I needed too, and still heat/cool/power my home.

Have you thought about a combo coal gas boiler and a boiler mate for the hot water? These can come with a Carlin gas gun.

I know it’s an 87% boiler but the high 90% combi boilers (wall hung) only last a few years if you have hard water and if you don’t maintain them. They are only a large tankless that needs to be flushed every other year. If you do go this route GET the flushing shut off / ports installed.

No, not where I live! (LOL)

I used to joke, "Sure we got cable out here; 9/16th's, 5/8's, 3/4"...what size do you need for your skidder?" (Of course they were talking about the kind that connects to a person's television).

We got a few more telephone poles past my house, but that is a far as the power goes. It is pretty rural here, so natural gas is not coming anytime soon.
