I got the videos from engine removal, day one uploaded. These will all be short videos because it literally takes hours with my slow internet. I generally let them upload over night.

I also started a playlist.

We didn't get a whole lot don today. We did get the engine all unbolted, free of the torque tube and setting on some wood blocks.

And, YES, I do use my engine hoist for engines as well as boilers! :D

I'll be pecking away at this in the evenings after work this week. The goal is to have it on a pallet with all it's associated parts, ready to ship by next Sunday.

I also have a couple more videos to upload showing the days progress.

It took about an hour this evening to disconnect the rest of the wiring and lower the motor down on to a piece of plywood.

When I took the engine out of my Lacrosse I just unbolted the sub frame and dropped it onto the hoist. Then I used the hoist in place to jack up the front end. Disconnected the hoist from the car and I was able to sneak the engine out of one of the wheel wells. Do not try this at home! :D

That's actually a good idea. You have to get the car up high enough to be able to get the engine out from under it. The engine hoist can go higher than a floor jack any day. The trick is figuring out a safe way to hook the engine hoist to the car. ;) It's a little scary when you have the car up at that angel though.

A couple videos from last night. We got everything disconnected and lowered the engine down. It's sitting on plywood with 1/2" pipes under it. It will roll right out once we get the car high enough.

When you get bored of the porker, you can make me an offer on this. It’s a carbon fiber composite GT40 chassis setup for a Ford “Coyote” engine. The bare chassis weighs 235 lbs.

Time for me to cheer up and watching these awe inspiring videos is just the ticket. The mechanical skills shown are just too much. I did replace the engine in a 1990 Jaguar XJS with a Chevy v8 unit. Much cheaper to run and it ran well but the power was not impressive and I sold it for a song. Seeing this thread I needed to get that old feeling back again and so I dropped a brick on my foot and for a moment I was back there. How did I lift out engines and cars? Yep, the fork lift I bought for a song is demonstrated lifting a 6000# Bombardier as the idiot dealer I bought it from did not understand the term no loading dock available.

I envy your energy and I am following this project with much interest.

At that point the engine, most of the suspension and sub frame weight is all on the frame of the hoist. I just hooked the hoist to somewhere on the wheel wells, not a whole lot of weight left. If you were going to do it lot you could make pipe about 4 foot with chains on both sides. The angle was pretty substantial though, that was the one thing that had me leery.

Close! It's an S2.

1991 was the last year for the 944 and they only made the Turbo and S2 models. The S2 got the same front bumper, rear diffuser, brakes and transaxle as the Turbo.

The S2 transaxle has gearing that accommodates the 3.0 naturally aspirated engines low end torque. This makes it a better match for the V8 swap than the strait Turbo trans.

That is really neat!

35 years ago that is definitely the direction I was headed it, mid engine V8, big brakes, big tires. These days the little pooche with 350 to 400 HP is about all I can handle!

Unfortunately, this one is open ended. After we get the engine in there and get the suspension sorted out, then we will address the trans and the lack of LSD.

Yesterday we got the engine out from under the car, cross-member/steering rack removed and mounted the engine on a pallet.

I'm up to part 16 and still in awe. Come on Don move it along.

So are you married? My first restore was a Jaguar xk120 and I spent every evening in the garage one winter. My first wife got fed up with me and divorced me. I don't miss the woman at all but the car ....

At my age I am just refilling my latte and watching in admiration.
