Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 50-93 & DS Machine Newstyle Champion
Coal Size/Type: nut (so far)
Other Heating: Ruud propane forced air system

Well, this AM was 27 deg. Last night I turned up the bi-metal to halfway, stove @ 500 and kept a bit of thru the door air going. 73 deg. in house this AM. Have now turned bi metal down to almost minimum on the scale and closed my damper to the forced air duct. stove is at 275 deg. and will probably leave it there overnight. Windowstats may be needed down the line but it still beats that damn propane, and it's supposed to be a 95% efficient furnace. Yes, my house is not large and up to standard on insulation & glass. Coal will stay lit for the winter, whenever it arrives.

i'll be lighting "A" stove a week from today.

this coming Friday i'll be driving to PA to drop off 2 stoves, staying Saturday and coming back Sunday.

here at home the forecast is 46 day time high and 33 for the low next Sunday and my wife will have been here from Colo. over night Saturday.

Sooo i'll have a stove on the hearth ready to go the second i'm in the door.

looks like our weather will break sharply into fall so after i get home there will only be same day return trips the rest of the winter. i'm actually looking forward to it, i've had a very busy and stressful summer.

Good luck with your light offs men. Maybe you guys could tease us "southerners" with some pics of the beginning of the 2017/2018 season. Hoping for a winter to justify black rock burning. last couple winters 'round here have been "marginal" at best.

Still too warm here in RI. I did light a fire outside in my fireplace today to satisfy the itch.

our forecast is for milder ( temp ) and wetter ( rain not snow ) so could be a 2.5 T or less winter, which is fine by me, i laugh myself sick having the house warm and adding 10-12 #'s every 24 hrs.

I hope we get some much needed rain at our end Steve, just to satisfy the drought. Plus, it'll help my newly planted grass this fall.

Replaced broken firebricks and one of the metal brackets that goes on top of the bricks in my Hitzer 82FA today.

I want to fire it up, maybe I will....

No coal fires yet. After replacing the rusting black pipe tee & short straight section behind the Hitzer with custom stainless pieces from a guy in Maine I've had a few scrap wood fires to knock off the chill. Trying to get the stainless liner well coated before 1 match time.

The 10 day forecast is still showing some days in the 60"s for me. I would love to light up, but probably won't. I have a new to me Jotul 507b. Can't wait to burn coal in it.
