Been burning pretty good in my Heatmor100cb outdoor coal boiler, but have been going through more coal than I thought I would...went through about 1.5 ton in a month to heat 2900sqft. Half my house has no insulation (old stone house), the other half is brand new, just finished addition.

I think I'm loosing a lot of heat up the chimney when blower kicks on. My blower turns off when water temp is 180F, turns back on at 178F. I have a little natural draft that helps hold the temp near 180F for awhile...but when blower kicks back on, temps can drop to 170-175 before climbing again. Takes a long time to recover. I see a lot of heat coming out of 12' of chimney. I tried restricting my airflow, doesn't seem to help a whole lot. I installed a damper in my chimney pipe this weekend, messed with it a little, didn't seem to do a whole lot either. In fact, I almost closed the damper with the blower running and the temp dropped. I just want to keep more heat in my firebox for quicker recovery and longer burns.
