Bigger volume added needs bigger expansion space.

Can put it anywhere in the system so long as flipping of valves wouldn't render it useless.

OK, well that is the next thing on the work list. Sure hope this helps, hate having to constantly monitor it when the house doesn't call for heat. THANKS for the help.

Other Heating: Caboose type potbelly stove

Post by rscarpa » Mon. Jan. 25, 2021 10:00 am

ok ive be experimenting for about a month with little luck.... my potbelly stove has been called a caboose stove says 'march brownback stove company Pottstown pa.....
it has a bottom sliding ash door with adjustable vent
a elevated rack in the middle that dumps to the ash
a small feed type lid on the front
a damper in the back right before the air vent
and a top round burner type sliding disk (solid no vent)
and there is also no spin vent in the middle
and i put in a barometric damper

I get the fire started with paper and wood or sometimes i've tried charcoal.
once hot i put coal in
coals gets red and burning good.... but i can't get it to put out heat ive tried open vent closed vent all closed just about every combination i can think of but im still freezing out her .....HELP !!!!! i remember as a kid my father would have it glowing red and it would heat the whole area.....

I have an expansion tank on my oil burner. You can see the bottom of it in one of the pictures(the oil boiler). I do not have one on the coal boiler. I thought since the two are connected with the 2" copper pipe it would all equalize but reading your posts I am guessing that was wrong. Is another tank required on the coal boiler also?
Thanks,
Paul
