- Hand Fed Coal Boiler: DS Aquagem 3200
- Coal Size/Type: Nut/Pea
Need some help guys. New to the forum not new to solid fuel boilers. I recently got a smoking deal on a 2 year old DS aquagem 3200 ($700!!) Anyways all plumbed up just working on the electric controls. It has a Samson draft regulator but also has a draft inducer fan. My setup is both high temp baseboards and low temp radiant heat in concrete. The system worked great with my 1980s Jensen's wood boiler. My main question is the aquastat for the draft inducer motor. There is currently a 6006a installed but my old wood boiler had a high/low limit a-stat for the inducer fan. Should I not use the samson draft regulator as my system unfortunately is not plumbed for a gravity system[for power failure]
I am new to burning coal and dont know if they like just chimney draft or the inducer fan. (I do have a dryer manometer and baro set at .6) Should I be looking for a high/low aquastat? The system is plumbed primary/secondary with 2 zones. Both have their own circ. With Boiler circ running 24/7. I also do not have DHW Coil, just a side arm heat exchanger.
Sorry if this is run on just trying to be clear

That's what I was thinking and just plug the inducer fan in to get fire going and let the L6006A shut it off around 140. My only fear is when power goes.out and the primary circ stops the samson wont and keep feeding the fire. The T&P will be piped outside in case of this event

Also if your on your own well with a pump, when the power goes out it won’t keep the boiler full of water if the t&p is dumping water out of the boiler.Jlinde37 wrote: ↑Sun. I know you came here for help with answers...what does DS and written manual say of this?
Samson valve, being non-electrical, will always do as it sees fit, and has no other control influences other than if air source is available, then, to pass or meter that air as required to the fire. If boiler cools add more air till its hot again.
Therefore the combustion fan/blower 'must be' the 'controlling device' of choice, electrically.
And the 'fail safe' (grid loss) should be to stop or block all combustion air to the Samson..
Certainly not want left to run up to max setting for the duration unhindered w/o pumps running..
No air...no fire...

Should I be pumping cold water into an overheating boiler if the power goes out?hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Tue. Sep. 24, 2019 10:30 amAlso if your on your own well with a pump, when the power goes out it won’t keep the boiler full of water if the t&p is dumping water out of the boiler.
I do have a well with a 25 gallon bladder.
I do not have a auto fill valve I manually fill it with a ball valve and set to 10psi cold.
So what can happen when say grid loss and pumps stop and boilers overheats and streams off? Can this harm the boiler?

Sure it can, water is coming out of the boiler, but no water is going in.

This isn't like burning wood.
What does your manometer tell you about your draft?
A coal appliance to operate off it's own naturally produced draft must meet minimum stack requirements, not your own minimum, but proper chimney installation minimum.
Draft is a negative pressure...what cannot get out of the chimney cannot allow much anything to get drawn in on the other end.
Too much or too little will disappoint...like Goldie Locks, it has to be just right...
