How to make Brunco Hearthglow burn Anthracite

Hi guys, have a brunco hearthglow that came with my house. Brunk's told me that it burns bit best, but I only have access to anthracite...it will burn it, but not well.
I've found I can close the door draft knobs and burn anthracite, but it burns really weak and only in the back where the damper flap is. Is there any way to achieve better air flow underneath to improve the performance?
