Hi fellow coal burners. I've had a wood coal boiler in my basement since I bought my house. It's hooked up in line with my oil fired boiler. I've never used it as it seems it was over fired and blew the thermostat. It needs gaskets and a good look over. Both boilers are piped into the same flue. They are piped in one over the other with the coal boiler on top. It was a legal setup years ago in 1985 when it was installed. Could I power vent the oil boiler out the storm window obviously with a proper precautions and keep the coal boiler in the same spot into my chimney ? Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Greetings,
By the looks of things you have an HS Tarm Wood and Coal Boiler there by
the looks of things with a manual aquastat/thermostat and it is as rare as hens teeth.
Venting through the basement window is a no no with the national
plumbing code.
I would call HS Tarm and see about getting parts for it as it is a good boiler
and find out who is servicing them as all you need is parts and a plumber
to check it.
Where is the temperature balancing pump between the two boilers???????
I do not see one in your photo image. you should have one pump for the
zone(or zones) and a second for the temperature balancing function between the
boilers.
I see one pump-A B+G I think and a black painted pump coming off the oil boiler above
the burner-are those the only circulating pumps for the system or is the temperature
balancing pump hidden? please post more pictures when you have time.
I do not see a bladder tank, air scoop or air vents for hot water expansion and removal of air bubbles.
Is there an air scoop in the system with an automatic air vent?
You could sell both boilers and install a dual fuel coal stoker which is what I intend
on doing when the next heating season comes and solve the flue problem as a
dual fuel unit is permitted per code with one chimney.
Please post more pictures please.

Thanks for the response and input. I'm not really sure on the questions your asking. I will take more pics later today.

Power vents are put thru walls all the time,There is no reason you can't run a power vent thru a closed up window hole, providing it is done to proper specs.

The stovepipe appears to be plumbed ok by Burnham's recommendations. Just check it to make sure it isn't rotted out. Poke around with an ice pick to make sure. If all is good, fire it up. I would not power vent a hand fired unit.
The boilers appear to be plumbed parallel, no need to balance anything.
