I have a co worker who is heating a old drafty farm house with a new too him New Yorker 130 boiler using wood right now, I've talked him into the dark side of coal lol this Saturday I am goin up to show him the ropes, I'm wondering if there's any guys out there with a New Yorker 130 or similar to give me any tips if any, I know it has a combustion fan Controlled by aqua stats but I think it would be better off with natural draft??? I don't know, I am installing a baro for him with my manometer so we'll have that figured out, he's having a hard time keeping up with his demand with only 4-6 hour burn times with wood, I'm hoping this is gonna change with coal, Im sorry in advance I know I'm not giving YA guys much to go off, any questions ya have I can ask him, I know he has 3 zones, basement, first floor, and 3 is old part of the house that is used for storage, there is a 2nd floor with no zone, I think it runs off the first floor thermostat, the "old part" zone is adjacent to the first floor, kind of like some additions. Any help would be appreciated

Where gonna start with nut size. I've been readin about them, the combustion fan has a set draft setting, do I maybe make this adjustable, or adjust it at idle, how do I tell where and when to set it for idle? When the house is up to set thermostat temp and it hits it's high limit cut off? I do not know much about boilers yet lol this will be weird for him because he has never been able to satisfy the thermostats

Some facts and questions to ponder:

The most critical thing will be to have good reliable control of the boiler at all times (24/7) A run away boiler is something you don't want to have to learn about on the first day. Could you quickly dump the hot water heat if you had too?

There should be more than one safety wired into the controls, you should know them and that they can and will work before they are actually needed.

Ok I don't know what his dump is but I'm thinking his basement would be the best because it's closest to the boiler, and that heat will rise to the first floor anyways, we have to make sure that if the dump zone comes on it shuts off his combustion fan so that the boiler will cool back down, have to figure out the manual setting on the combustion fan for idle too.
