Hello Everyone!
I'm visiting my mom and step-dad. They have an old Kewanee Coal Boiler in their basement that has since been replaced with a newer oil burner. The Kewanee was converted to burn oil before they went with a newer, more efficient model. The firebricks look to be in good shape.
I guess my question is: can anyone provide me with information and value of these units? They're looking to sell it. I know it is all cast and will need some repairs for a full refurb (i.e., new jacket and doors, etc.).
The top of the boiler is rounded with a bunch of holes and pipes exiting (heat exhaust,or baffles, possibly ).
The plate states the following information:
Kewanee Boiler Corporation
Square Heat Type R Boiler
Heating Surface: 53sq. ft.
Max W.P. Steam: 15LB.
Max W.P. Water: 30LB.
Mech. Fired: 216,000 BTU/HR
Hand Fired: 178,000 BTU/HR
Use Baffle For Oil or Gas Firing
I know how picture-oriented you all are but at this time I'm unable to provide any.
Really interested in knowing how much to ask for this unit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am not so sure that its a cast vessel --- but pictures would be fun
As to value -- ?
I would value at 2 or 3 cents a pound with out the bit stoker to go under it

Old cast iron boilers are a crap shoot. Some people will monkey with them, but without a stoker and jacket it isn't worth much more than scrap price. Getting cast parts is sometimes impossible without having them custom cast at great cost.
My Dad had a nice steel boiler in his basement that was an old coal boiler that was still perfectly solid. No stoker or jacket. It took 4 men to drag it a few feet. The only way out of the basement was to knock a hole in the basement wall or using a fire wrench. After doing an economic analysis, the fire wrench was used and trip to the scrap yard was taken.
