Does anyone have any links or knowledge if either of these two companies still have parts available or any info for that matter?

Thanks

There are still some parts being made for stoker and combustioneer stoves. We have some parts available for both types of stoves. You can contact us at 606-864-5146.
THanks,
Elissa

Pease Feed and Coal in Wyoming has parts available. Talk to Michael.

I believe Combustioneer still makes parts, but not complete stoves.

Wil-burt in Orrville OH still provides parts for Combustioneers. I just ordered shear pins from them. Contact Barb Grabbe (BGrabbe@wilburt,com).

Hi Harry, did they say what their shear pins were made of?? you were using brass, right?

How often are you removing clinkers from your firepot?? got any photos of the clinkers?

Wil-Burt did not say what their shear pins are made of, but they are steel.

I still am using brass (brazeing rod) and the last one I put in hasn't failed yet.

I am removeing clinkers 4-5 times a day lately but the temps have been 0-10 with a wind chill of -25. Before the weather turned I was removeing clinkers once a day.

I'll take some pics of them tonight and post them Monday.

The shear pins that are best to use for Wilburt transmissions are 1/8" brass rod. It is a lot cheaper to replace a shear pin once in while than replacing a gear. These transmissions are very good transmissions but they are expensive to fix, so keep oil in them and use the brass shear pins.

the biggest problem I have with will-burt's transmission design, is that on the combustioneer stoves there's no design feature that keeps or even encourages the fines to stay put, rather, they migrate to the output shaft seal and take it out. Thus leading to oil leaks, which then leads to other transmission failures/excessive wear. often the oil will leak only into the auger tube where it mixes with coal and is sent into the burn pot, thus there is no obvious sign of a leak. crappy design IMHO.

Stokermatic transmissions can leak there too but I'm not sure if it's caused from fines though, or just wear and tear.? There is a round piece of thin sheet metal around the shaft where the feed screw attaches to the transmission to help keep coal from getting to the seal and gasket.
Here is a photo of a stokermatic transmission with (worn) feed screw. If you look closely you can see the thin round metal next to the gasket that seals the transmission to the hopper.

interesting. will-burt does nothing to keep fines from destroying the seal. Will-burt did a number of things well, and a number of things were just very poorly designed.

Will-Burt's design is similar to the Iron Fireman, no?

yes, it is. with the same results. oil leaks, trashed seals, coal fines in the gear case and oil in the auger tube.
