In my hopper is a 1" black knob, on the front side of the hopper, attached to a rod that can be pulled out towards the rear of the hopper. It can be pulled out about 4"-5". I believe there is a scrapper with a chain attached to it that the rod is attached to. I think it is to clean the soot from a "heat deflector". When the knob is pulled, there is a slight noise made as the scrapper and chain rub against the metal they are in contact with. I'm not hearing the noise or feeling anything happening when I pull the knob. Could the scrapper and chain have fallen off? If so, would they drop into the ash pan? Also, if they have fallen off, what is the best way to replace them? Could I remove the stove pipe and install the parts down through from the top?
