My hopper has rusted through and I am feeling my way through disassembly at the moment. I have removed all the outer shroud an the gearbox. Sense I am in there I will replace the wiring (some of it is cracked) an I'm sure there will be other things I will find.

It's starting to go back together. I found a crack in the heat exchanger part of the firebox, I ground it open and welded it up. The hopper had only worn through on the gearbox side, however I cut and plug welded pieces of 16ga P&O sheet metal on the "back","front" and the "slope" of the hopper. I also added 2 pieces that slope towards the auger, they were not there originally and were not really needed it seemed like a good idea, hopefully I don't have bridging issues. I also painted the inside with some kind of truck bed paint, an the outside with aluminum high temp engine paint. I painted the firebox with 2000* header paint, it shouldn't ever get that hot I have my doubts that any paint can stand 2000* in atmosphere anyway. Sorry for the sideways pictures I can't figure out how to correct them.

That is a beautiful rebuild. Should provide several more years of service.
Since heating prices will be out of sight this year,I think most of us will definitely be glad to be coal burners this winter.

I have got it back on line, I ended up replacing the motor with whatever brand motor rural king had. I noticed that the old motors bearings were dry and "crunchy" feeling. Once I had the motor apart I saw that the centrifugal switch for the start windings was about wore out completely. I replaced the bearings and put it together thinking I could make it work for a while till I could get a premium efficiency baldor. Anyway I got the old motor to self start once, and then it wouldn't self start, it would run if I helped it start.
I forgot how bad high temp paint stinks when first heated, last night I burned a bunch of cardboard in it to start the curing process, and today when I put a real fire in it I had to open the doors and windows to clear it out, thankfully it's in the upper 50s.
Basically I cut out the rotten/thin metal and welded a patch in place and then plated what I consider high wear surfaces of the inside of the hopper. So the old hopper envelope is airtight. I would have loved to make a new hopper however time did not allow for that. I called around hoping to find 16ga 304ss but, that is unavailable from the 5 places I know of. 14 ga an 18ga steel is in short supply also.
If you get one of these with a rotted hopper and you have a welder an some basic tools you can fix it, do not be afraid to tear into it its worth fixing.

Nice job. That stove is on my wish list. I believe the bit I get here is actually stoker. The mine calls it stove coal but it’s much smaller and that’s the only size they sell. I bet it would run fine in a stove like yours.

I have run across a few of them on Craigslist. Stokermatic and firetender are other very similar stoves. Although I don't know if parts are available for them.
